I'm not Buddhist, but thanks for jumping to conclusions.

And I had to think of this story again today as I tried not to get tangled up in a family drama. Good story to take with you.
very good story that applies in my life as well. I really have to take it to heart more often and try to go about my life here.

I think you have some misunderstandings about Buddhism. I am a Buddhist, but I am not an erudite scholar, so excuse me if I respond in an unsatisfactory manner.

#1 "being raped" or killed or injured ... lay back and take it? I never read that anywhere in the entire Tripitaka, which the Dhammapada is part. Did you know that Asian defensive martial arts are taught in Buddhist Temples, such as kung fu originating in the famous Shao Lin monestary in China, or Muay Thai in Thailand? Defending yourself and your family is very much a part of Buddhism.

#2 "positive and negative" in Buddhism we call it the law of Karma. Every action has a reaction. Ever see the yin-yang symbol?

#3 "born losers"? In Buddhism we believe every human being is a potential Buddha (enlightened one) and we are called to respect our neighbors and strangers as well.

The Dalai Lama summerized Buddhism in four words: "My religion is kindness."

Everyone ... have a lovely day!

... and concerning DUKKHA ... often mistranslated as 'suffering' but really means imperfect or unsatisfactory aspects of life, The Four Noble Truths points the way out of imperfection, discomfort and suffering.

One day the Buddha was walking through a village. A very angry and rude young man came up and began insulting him. "You have no right teaching others," he shouted. "You are as stupid as everyone else. You are nothing but a fake!"

The Buddha was not upset by these insults. Instead he asked the young man, "Tell me, if you buy a gift for someone, and that person does not take it, to whom does the gift belong?"

The young man was surprised to be asked such a strange question and answered, "It would belong to me, because I bought the gift."

The Buddha smiled and said, "That is correct. And it is exactly the same with your anger. If you become angry with me and I do not get insulted, then the anger falls back on you. You are then the only one who becomes unhappy, not me. All you have done is hurt yourself.

"If you want to stop hurting yourself, you must get rid of your anger and become loving instead. When you hate others, you yourself become unhappy. But when you love others, everyone is happy."

The young man listened closely to these wise words of the Buddha. "You are right, O Blessed One," he said. "Please teach me the path of love. I wish to become your follower."

The Buddha answered kindly, "Of course. I teach anyne who truly wants to learn. Come with me."
