From The Daily News
by Stanley Cyrus April 1, 2008 A piece of scrapple with the face of Jesus was served to a customer at the Melrose Diner early this morning. The customer, a devout Catholic, was unable to consume the “food” and took it immediately to nearest Catholic church, St. Istafan’s. However, in accordance with Vatican policy the priest there would not accept this as a miracle. Anna DeBlasio, the waitress who was serving the customer was particularly upset in that she did not receive a tip and said that the plate could have gone to another customer who she said would have paid and left a nice tip. She went on to say, “I mean I’m just serving the regular people here when all of a sudden this nut jumps up then gets down on his knees and starts praying to the breakfast special I brought and then runs out with the plate screaming and praying I don’t know what and I get nothing.” After the still unnamed customer visited the church he then took the plate and the scrapple to the South Philadelphia Mystery Meat Company, the maker of the food like portion. The employees at the company quickly venerated the plate and the scrapple in a refrigerated display on the front steps. However, the Melrose Diner laid claim to the edible portrait as it had not been paid for. Lawyers for both sides are scheduled to hold meetings today to try to solve the conflict.
