Default Smaller Catholic Churches

Greetings,

I am planning to have a Catholic wedding in the ceter city/south philly area. The attendance will be relatively small (~35 people) and I was looking for a church in the downtown(ish) area which is not so big that it would dwarf my crowd. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

You should look at Holy Spirit church in Packer Park. It's a (relativly) small church built circa-1960.

Old St. Joseph's at 4th and Walnut Streets (www.oldstjoseph.org).

Old St. Joe's is a beautiful old church. Great place for a small wedding.

Also Old St. Mary's and St. Philip Neri are small.

St. Augustine, St. Rita, and St. John the Evangelist aren't too big.

My sister was married at Old St Augustines and a good friend was married at Old St Mary's. Both are relatively small and beautiful. Old St Joe's seems like a good option too. Also maybe the chapel on the side of the basilca.

I thought you usually were married in your parish.

I second (third?) St. Augustine at 4th & Vine in Old City. It's small enough to do justice to your wedding party and pretty enough to make it worthwhile.

John the Evangelist is the most beautiful church in CC, although I think it's probably a little too big for what you want. And St. Rita, while also gorgeous, is definitely too big. But just don't take our words...really, you should make a list of potentials and visit each one.

I think it's pretty common nowadays to get married outside your parish. I believe you'll need to pay a non-parishioner fee, but that's about it.

St Johns is not bigger than St Augustine's...if anything they're about the same size ...but I still think St John's is the smaller of the two.

Plus the Friars are really laid back.

My vote: St Johns.

St. Rita's is a beautiful church, I remember it from my elementary school days.

Also, try Annunciation BVM at 10th and Dickinson.
