That is silly, but if you ever look through the congressional record for a given day, there's all sorts of silliness. Resolutions praising "Billy Joe Bobcat, who raised the largest tomater in Humboldt County," etc.

there was a big hue and cry by Christians when a Hindu priest was allowed to make the morning prayers in Senate a few months ago. And recently, I believe the U.S. Post Office made its first stamp celebrating Diwali, a Hindu celebration... again probably pissed off a bunch of Christians. So what else did Congress have to do other than pass this resolution to calm the fear of those who might be wondering of America is still Christian, or something like that.

In case your wondering, I'm angry about this bill since it basically destroys the First Amendment.

It's actually just a resolution, which means it carries absolutely no weight and doesn't actually do anything. There are ridiculous resolutions all the time.

As an Orthodox Jew, I don't have any problem with that resolution. It doesn't praise Christianity to the exclusion of all other religions. And as for Jews, America, as a Christian nation, has been the most tolerant of all nations toward my own people, esp. when compared to the history of European nations.
And this country was founded as a Christian nation, despite what atheists and secularists like to say. It is very evident when one reads the writings of the Founding Fathers. The basic premise of America was as a "Christian" nation, but not advocating or formally supporting any one FORM OF Christianity. That's the difference. |
