I love Christmas and Christianity, but I think HR RES. 847 is ridiculous.

I'd rather see my tax dollars working to end poverty and the war than this nonsense.

Most of the legislators involved with the resolution were from "red states"- no surprise there.

Yeah, as long as they don't pass any amendment saying that the official religion of the US is Christianity, we'll be fine...

That's when they mess with the Constitution...

But that has as much a chance as them saying English the national language of the United States.

Interestingly, the Christmas resolution was the only one that had any "nay" votes -- it passed 372-9. You can see how the votes came down here:

There have not yet been any resolutions proposed recognizing any Jewish holidays. Apparently, we're not doing a very good job of controlling the government these days.

Addendum: interesting... one of the "nay" votes was from a representative from Virginia, who is an Episcopalian. That's very daring. The rest were no particular surprise: California, Colorado, New York, Washington. Only one of the 9 "nay" voters is Jewish; the rest are various flavors of Protestant.

I find it amusing that alot of Christians hide behind this whole we were started as a Christian nation bunk. Yes Christians started our nation but not to start a Christian nation per say but escape religious intolerance, but now a days fundies are all about saying it was gods will to start a Christian nation. I find it ludicrous to feel the need to exalt yourself in such a manner , doesn't seem to Christ like to me , but then again alot of what modern day Christians doesn't seem to Christ like to me.
