You don't.

Secular Humanistic ethics are focused on valuing human life, no matter, and that's the key phrase, what kind of person is in question. Additionally, the focus is about the quality of life on Earth and not in some fantasy land.

It's better and religion is prejudiced no matter the variety.

I can't abide a religion that forbids coffee consumption.

The Mormons don't do coffee? Yikes. In my Episcopal church we treat having coffee like a sacrament!

I don't see what is wrong with not voting for someone because of their religion. After all, religion is a choice.

I can't think of a better way to judge a candidate than their choices. If you choose to believe that god doesn't want you to drink coffee then who knows what other nonsence you might choose to believe.

What we need is a Hari krishna in the White House to balance things out.

I've never drunk coffee, probably because it was what grownups drank when I was a teenager in the '60s. (Even now, I think of it as an old person's drink, even when its dominant users seem to be people a third of my age.) Over the years, I've had more than one person complain that it ruined the vibe to have a non-worshiper in the Church of Caffeine in the group.

As for "weird," yesterday's Inquirer quoted some professor of religion to the effect that all religions have bizarre beliefs. Many Christian churches, for instance, believe Communion to be the body and blood of Christ. But nobody attacks these Christians as cannibals. In this respect, at least, Romney isn't any more weird than anyone else.

Personally, I liked George Romney, Mitt's dad. He had the balls to come back from Vietnam and confess to having been "brainwashed" by his handlers.

Not to beat a dead horse, the contention is that theism is required for morals to be meaningful. Not that atheists can't be moral.

Given the fact that, according to the atheist worldview, thoughts are determined by the laws of physics and chemistry, how exactly do you think freely?

But I think Romney was correct. Atheism provides no basis for freedom or any other sort of morality. Atheists are just living off of the theistic fumes of the past.

There's a whole history of attacking Catholicism as a religion that is barely Christian, and has even warped the whole concept. It is in fact a combo of the ancient Roman religion and Christianity. The Saints are much like the story of Hercules in that they do a certain number of feats and become godlike. The holy water bit is from that era too, and the Pope position is anti-Christian, etc.

Martin Luther and a huge number of other people have said that and more.
