Default Two Episcopal priests admit being Druids

This has to be my favorite headline of the week, month, maybe the year.

Hell, we episcopals will accept gay bishops but NO DRUIDS.

Quote:
Two Episcopal priests whose leadership of a local Druid society has created a scandal resigned from that group yesterday, but face possible discipline from the Diocese of Pennsylvania.

While directing parishes in Malvern and Downingtown for nearly four years, the priests - a married couple - were also spiritual guides to local Druids, people who follow pre-Christian practices of worshiping the sun, venerating the Earth, and holding trees sacred.

I understand they've resigned their Druid titles.

Brigid, is described as "the triple Goddess of Celtic Druidism, and a beloved Christian Saint of Ireland
or maybe the "holding trees" bit

And I just read that it cooked the goose of the priests - he had to resign from his church.

Nobody has a sense of humor anymore.

Like "a preacher, a priest and a rabbi walk into a bar?"

I sorta like the old Emo Phillips routine -
  • Preacher in a small midwest town sees a man who has stopped his car, climbed up the beams of a bridge and is ready to jump.

Preacher- "Hey, don't jump- god cares"
Jumper- No he doesn't, why should I listen to you?

Preacher- "Well, if there IS a God, it just doesn't look good if you jump without at least listening to a man of the cloth."
Jumper- ok, you've got a point- so tell me why I shouldn't jump!

Preacher "Well, I'll bet you believe in God, in some form, and if I'm right, I'd ask you to come down a step"
Jumper- yes I believe in god- takes 1 step down so he's lower on the beam

Preacher "Well, you don't have an accent so I'll assume you're from around here" Correct?
Jumper- Yes - hey, that doesn't count for step

Preacher "Ok, I'll bet you're Christian" step down
Jumper Yes, I am -takes a step down

Preacher "And I bet you're a member of one of the local churches aren't you?"
Jumper- Yes - takes a step down.

Preacher "And, the lord tells me, you're a member of the national Bretheren congregation"
Jumper- Yes, I am - takes a step down

Preacher "And, I further believe that you're a member of our Northern State Council of the faith"
Jumper- hey- you're good, I am- takes a step down

Preacher "Northern council, so then you're Eastern district?"
Jumper- yes, eastern district - steps down to the top of the railing

Preacher "Believer in the First Eccumenical Council?"
Jumper- amazing, yes first eccumenical council - steps down to the sidewalk

    Preacher "Second Eccumenical Council"
    Jumper- yes Second Eccumenical Council

    Preacher "Creed of 1826?"
Jumper- No oh, Council of 1827
Preacher "1827?!?! Council of 1827? ? DIE HERETIC!!!"
and pushes him off the bridge..

(I just walked out to the corner store, and saw a classic "Yogi Berra" line - There was a fork in the road, no I didn't stop and pick it up...)

But back to a good theological puzzle-

If you're married or baptized by an invalid priest or deacon,
is that marriage or baptism also invalid?

If it is still valid, why did you need the minister in the first place?

I think that if the person/people truly believe that the minister or priest was valid, then their marriage or baptism is still valid. Truth to that, anyone?

They may also look into becoming Unitarian-Universalists. I met a gentleman the other day who is Unitarian who told me that his congregation once had a pastor who was a "self-proclaimed atheist." The congregation was fine with that, apparently, because he believed in humanistic principles and was tolerant of people in the congregation expressing their beliefs as they saw fit.

Interesting...

It is true ... plenty of Unitarian-Universalists are atheists, agnostics, Druids, Buddists, and just about anything else. Lots are socialists or communists, nearly all are Democrats, and half the clergy is gay.

But they somehow have a veneer of respectability.
