hey E!
so, i went to the SOSNA website and found a window box competition but this doesn't seem to be the same thing. it seems all so haphazard. And another point is - why have judging on the day of trash day for some in the district (which is traditionally horrible, at least for my block,as witnessed by the folks who constantly award our block trashiest ever awards) and also three days before the citywide clean up? I am not involved enough in SOSNA meetings so I thought I was totally out of the loop. So I know my own faults. I was just wondering about those of you who generally have their fingers relatively firmly on the pulse of the hood know about it.

That's strange. We'll probably all be disqualified if that's the case...
BTW, I just got an email that supplies for Saturday will be available at the SOSNA office... And no, the window box competition is not related to this... P.S. The police district meeting is tonight. Maybe someone will have the scoop for us then.

i cannot be 100% sure of this since the information comes either via email or from the mouth of my neighbor - who is not passing on already written info. She is telling me in her words what she knows.
I have tried to get the real dirt on this judging thing. It is all so strange. I mean look, how does this person, who has immersed herself in neighborhood things and man I am glad about it, know about the judging etc...and Dr G and JillyS don't? that doesn't add up. you guys know evvvverything. It was mentioned at the meeting that you could see Officer Holms if you were involved, sounded like it might be closed out. I'll try to give him a call and find out tomorrow, but it sounds like we all missed the boat.

quick follow up - bits and pieces are drifting in.
I know now that "they" (who?) decided opn Monday night to judge the block on wednesday evening. This meant that if there was to be a really good clean up on Tuesday, producing garbage bags, they could be put out in the Wednesday morning for our regular trash pick up. The judges came by around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Our block was the first of others to be judged in the weeks to come. Those that were available on short notice on Tuesday to clean did a remarkable job and I am grateful to them for it.

I'm guessing it might be a PMBC contest?...
http://www.phila.gov/streets/pmbc_contest.html Yesterday I put a call in to Bill Stern, our PMBC Clean Block Officer, to ask him if he knows. But I haven't heard back yet. Will post if I do. PS Does everyone know that this coming Saturday is another PMBC Clean-up Day for us?... http://www.phila.gov/streets/pmbc_schedule.html (Bags, brooms & other supplies are available from the SOSNA office.) |

sounds like it. there is a BBQ on July 26th from 11 - 3 at the PPD of the 17th district. and i don't know who its for ...winners? losers? all?
and this contest had something to do with the Transportation Workers Union. I know that much. I'm meeting someone tonight who could tell me more. oh and yes there is still a clean up this saturday.
