Well I'll agree with you on the prices (steep) but otherwise we think Snackbar is great. Attitude and all. (I mean who doesn't love the guy with the wild handlebar mustache & occasionally affected accent? )

Seriously, we've always enjoyed our drinks & the food there, and never have been made to wait. Granted, we tend to go at odd times when it isn't busy, so that might be the rub.

Having said that, we will sorely miss Chaucer's cheap & wonderful burgers, especially during $5 happy hour time, not to mention their great staff.

Oh yeah, I love the way that building was preserved there...

That would be great, but I fear nothing is going to get to go in there before that building comes tumbling down. What the heck are they doing to that place? I make a wish everytime I walk past that nothing will fall on me (even though I'm on the other side of the street).

Maybe they could locate in the 1600 block of South St. - they could make one heck of a wine grotto in that pit there on the south side of the street!

Sounds great anywhere around here really.

Is that "pit" still tied up in litigation? Anybody know?

I drove down south today and there's a sign in the window in one of the empty storefronts across from pumpkin that said "restaurant opening soon". My first thought was that it was the new pumpkin produce place, but my wife later told me pumpkin is taking the old variety store space. Anyway all good stuff.

The new restaurant is going to be an Italian BYOB opening sometime this fall. That's all I know.

Yup, but according to the civil docket there's a hearing this comming week.

Recall that one individual on the adjacent property on Kater street is vigorously trying to rip up the zoning board's decision to allow the builder certain height variances. The ZBA's decision was based on a SOSNA zoning meeting held last year (where the greater majority of neighbors voted in favor of the builder) as well as a letter of support from the SSWBA.

My sense is that this matter will be resolved soon. The guy can only appeal the ZBA's decision for so long as he has no grounds for his complaint (obstructed view etc.)

Funny thing is that the guy complaining has a height variance on his property and is fighting the builder from obtaining the same thing....

Can we dream? The 1600 Block of South Street will be developed and thriving - in the not too distant future?

I stuck my head in the new place yesterday, it's starting to look nice. I was told it was going to be "French Italian", whatever that means.

The 1600 South "hole" is a little more complicated than described here, but I hope something gets resolved this week, I'd really love to see that as one big commerical first floor that could accomidate something larger than a 20-30 seat BYOB.
