Default community garden

Neighbors and I going to build an unofficial community garden on an empty lot on Dorrance st. I have a lot of residents on my block willing to participate and we are all excited. I am the only one with a truck so I am in charge of picking up the soil for the gardens and mulch for the walkways. I checked the depot and lowes and they do not sell mulch or soil by bulk or ton, just by bag. Is there anywhere in the are that sells much or sand in this fashion. I am building giant (6' x 12') planters w/ pt boards that go around the lot and covering the rest of the ground with mulch. we will put a post and rail fence on the entrance to the lot. Thats the plan anyway but if you have any thoughts or suggestions i am open to them. Thanks for your help.

If the city plan fails, check the classifieds. There are places that drop off.

Thanks for the advice to all whom replied. I managed to get all my materials for free. The Fairmount Recycling Center is an amazing resource and the wood for the planters was taken from a deck a neighbor was having replaced. If any one wants to see the results the garden is on Wharton and Dorrance. We will be BBQ'in and planting all day Sunday the 6th.
