We haven't had to make a claim for our home or car, which are both covered by Travelers, so I can't give an accurate response. Our agent has advised us to call him before Travelers for any potential claims, as I think some damage is worth dealing with yourself rather than facing an increase in the cost of your insurance. All I know is that Travelers has been around "forever" and has a really solid reputation. Hopefully I'll never have to know how they are to deal with...

Does anyone know whether there has been a history of sewer/water backup in the neighborhood?
I'm debating whether to eliminate the sewer/water backup option in my policy, esp. since I don't have a basement. My house is on a concrete slab. Would anyone recommend for us to keep this option? |

If it was me, I'd keep it. My nightmare scenario would be that the connection between the house and the sewer gets clogged, then a hard rain like we had over the past few days falls. The potentional would be that all of that rainwater could then start coming up the pipes into your home, taking the sewer waste thats been stuck in the house with it (remember, the rain is going into the same outlet a little downstream of your sewer line). It's probably not too much money to keep that insurance so I'd have it for my own peace of mind.

The agent can tell you what it will cost to replace -- sounds roughly in the area - you are correct - Rendell just signed a law July 4 where you are not required to have insurance coverage based on the loan amount -- only coverage based on the structure -- in the past some/most lenders in PA have required that you get coverage up to the loan amount -- even though you will never get that amount if your house is a total loss. So here's to a good law hth/ |
