I agree, always enjoy this thing. They should stretch it to 2 days, there is so much to get done. I guess it would be tough to break everything down and re-set it up. It was unfortunate to see an angry a#s black panther walking around with his megaphone screaming obscenities and black power noise. This is a festival of a new beginning and peace, this dude was spitting hate, serious hate. "get the fu%$ out of my neighborhood white man" hate. And the whole time he's talking about "black man stand up and be a father, stand up and be a man", but he's yelling extremely vulgar words while there are very young kids around. That's no example to set. Such a hypocrite. Some people were feeling him, but the majority were not trying to hear it, which is encouraging for a guy like me. Just trying to enjoy this festival, this life. I guess there are extremists all over the place. Anyway, it's always interesting. I love this thing though. I got a sweet Barack shirt, and some good eye candy. Looking forward to next year.

The fried fish that had me bowing to the porcelain god for the rest of the afternoon. I never knew fish could elicit such a violent gastrointestinal response. Amazing.

Default Sole Food

I live right in the heart of this thing and I love it. Especially the drum circles that go on till 9pm or so at night. I ate a bunch of the food, and while my waist is now paying for it, I loved my Shrimp, Corn Bread, Mac & Cheese, and collared greens platter.

yum.

i'm surprised that no one has mentioned what was supposed to be the headlining performance... i am not a fan of odunde, but decided to venture out to see my favorite m.c., krs-one(supposedly, he was to perform at 7pm on the mainstage). after standing around in the heat for an hour, just as he was supposedly about to take the stage, they pulled the plug. i do understand why they shut down the sound at 8pm, but i do not understand why the organizers let everyone believe up until the last minute, that krs-one would be performing. it wasn't until after the crowd started boo-ing, that a woman came onto the stage and explained the headliner did not arrive until 8pm, and she would not allow him to perform for only one minute. i wonder if krs-one was even in philadelphia at all yesterday. the organizers handled that aspect of the event very poorly.

The fried shrimp, mac n cheese, greens, fried chicken. It was all cooked perfectly seasoned right and extra hot (temp)so as to not worry about food sitting out in the heat. Sorry about ur bad fish experience. How long after u ate it did you get sick. Food borne illness from improper food handling can take several hours if not days to catch up with u. Food allergies can happen more immediately. If it was fried fish maybe the grease didnt agree with you. Nonetheless. Sorry for your discomfort.

When I went in the past I was hoping for some traditional African foods available that I would normally not be able to get and never found any. I was hoping that things had changed but I guess not.

That huge vegan booth positioned right near Grace looked really interesting and really popular, but I went for the nearby pork ribs, mac 'n cheese, and mashed potatos with gravy instead. All of which was amazing.

Default Too much trash left over

Great atmosphere but I'm disappointed with the clean up. The street sweepers were out on Gray's Ferry last night but the stretches of 24th St north of Bainbridge and south of Gray's Ferry seem to have been overlooked. There are still lots of plastic cups, papers and Midas FM things littering the gutters and sidewalks. If the street crews had done their job, the neighborhood should be cleaner now than it was on Saturday night. I don't mind (too much) cleaning up the regular wind blown trash - its part of living in the neighborhood - but it shouldn't be down to us to clean up after a (profitable?) street festival. Especially in 95 degree weather. Does anyone know who we can call?
