They also extend really far north, I believe as far as Girard but at least as far as Fairmount. I think the old cutoff was Spring Garden.

I think that's too big a district, and I object to our neighborhood being included. I once had to go directly to the Union League (smack in the center of town) from the airport. It took twice as long as going home from the airport, meaning that we're subsidizing all those folks in Northern Liberties, Fairmount and, yes, Center City.

For travel at some times of the week, it's not much more expensive to pick up a car at Hertz and drop in Center City than to pay their flat rate -- and you get the car for the whole day.

I just moved from Chestnut down to Catharine and was wondering about the airport flat rate. It apparently does end at South Street, according to both the airport site (http://www.phl.org/ground_transportation.html#taxi) and this Philly Taxi site (http://www.philly-taxi.com/fares.htm).

Basically from river to river between South and Fairmount, plus a bit in U City.

Quote:
Center City Zone is defined between the Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers as falling between South Street on the south and Fairmount Avenue on the north. West of the Schuylkill River to 38th Street between JFK Boulevard around 30th Street Station (2900 Arch Street) to it’s intersection with 32nd and Market Street and along a line west on Market to it’s intersection with 38th Street, south on 38th Street to it’s intersection with Spruce Street, east on Spruce Street to it’s intersection with South Street.
And the flat rate is going up to $28.50 as of June 2nd, not that it affects anyone south of South.

How ODD! I've taken cabs back and forth to the airport three times in the past six weeks and each and every one had a new map showing the larger CCD.

Good luck trying to get someone to charge you a metered rate. Before the new maps came out, I had numerous arguments with drivers at the airport. (Never really had much trouble going from home to the airport, though.)

Curiouser still! I admit that I haven't gone to the airport for awhile, but I thought that the last few times I was in a cab they had new maps showing the southern end of the flat rate zone as South Street. (The maps themselves went south to Washington.)

We will both have to pay particular attention to the maps next time we take a cab! I'll cheerfully eat my words if/when it turns out that I saw what I wanted to see.

I took Olde City Airport Taxi on Tuesday am - 5am to be exact and was charged $26. It was too early to argue the flat rate, so I thought I would research it for next time and worry about it then.

Taxi arrived 5 minutes early - thanks again for the recommendation.

I was in a cab last night. It had a brand spanking new map on the back seat. Northern boundary is Fairmount. Southern boundary is.....wait for it.....South Street!

The cabbie was dumbfounded, swore they must have put an old map in his cab, swore the southern boundary was Washington Avenue.
