A small group of us have organized a regular playgroup meeting at the Marion Anderson playground. We'll meet there every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month around 3pm. So far, we've got a few 2 year olds, a few 1 year olds and I think just two babies, but we're open to other ages of children too. We're all eager to get to know other local parents, so please join us!

Working parents might start a weekend day. I think that except perhaps for summer the evening would be a little late for an outdoor playgroup.

My husband (Dr. G) and son (he's 2) typically go to the Marian Anderson playground late morning/early afternoon on Saturday (when Dr. G can convince him to leave Pumpkin Market)--I'm sure they would love to have more kids and parents join them.

.....not everyone works M-Fri....not to mention that my 'job' at home is a helluva lot harder than the one that gives me a 'paycheck'........ |

Way to chime in several days later. I don't really wish to get into an argument with you here, but the majority do. And I never said that being a parent isn't a full time job. However, it's doubly hard to work a better than 9 -5 schedule and raise children.

I think the problem of finding parenting opportunities that allow for the stereotypical Mon-Fri 9-5 working schedule is a real one, but I also think that for parents of small children a daytime playdate is preferable to an evening one, whenever possible. There's no reason a rich and vibrant and diverse neighborhood such as ours can't support both kinds of scheduling. (Back in the 70s, I lived out in BitterGate country for a time and was a working mother. The schools simply didn't get the idea that it was a real hardship to drive 25 miles back from work to go to a parent-teacher conference blithely set for 1 pm, and then drive 25 miles back to work to finish my workday. Could they schedule my conferences for the beginning or the end of the days? Noooooo...)

Exactly. Would people mind not turning this relatively benign thread into a debate about working vs. stay-at-home parents? Thanks.

Ditto. We're simply offering an invitation. It's impossible to organize one activity that fits into every concievable schedule. Please join us this afternoon. The more, the merrier.
