I don't know the personel, but I do know one of the owners died about 2 or 3 years ago and by some past accounts on this board it began to decline at that point.

I think Jack is still there. He's the one with all the camera stuff on his belt, right? Maybe on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. maybe Saturdays too.

Is Jack the 40/50-ish guy with silver hair? Last time we were at Chaucer's (probably a couple of months ago now) he was there. He's a nice guy.

My husband also reminded me that we only started going to Chaucer's less than 2 years ago, probably closer to a year. We decided to try it after we noticed a "new chef" sign out front. That's probably why we've always thought the food was good. I guess the bad food before that lost them too many customers to recover though? That's sad.

So does anyone have any more news? When is it supposed to be closing? Any rumors about what it will be next?

I would say that the service is not quite as good, the food is pretty good but it takes a while. When it was new, they were attentive to customers it it had a neighborhood feel. Now they have made it and it feels more of a destination for college kids outside the hood. I still frequent it, but prefer sidecar now.

I was in Ten Stone for brunch last month, it was just horrible. Everything looked and tasted dry, and there was no attempt at a decent presentation. It was like eating sand. I have to say it was the worst brunch I've ever had.
And I'm usually a fan of Ten Stone, I like that they have cider on tap and an oedl dartboard.

10 Stone's food was never very good, and it's loud as hell in there. Chaucer's (though I haven't tried it in a long time) food has always sucked, But Jack is awesome, they both have good beers on tap though. But anymore, what Philly bar doesn't have good beer on tap?

Grace, Doobies, and Sidecar are great, and have always been great.

This sums up my feelings to a T.

Also, as my husbands points out, drinks (beer, wine) are very expensive at Ten Stone. In my mind, that means any slippage in service etc. is totally unjustified.

I think Ten Stone food is pretty good, in fact I've never had a bad meal there out of 20 - 30 times I've been there since it opened. Plus they don't nickel and dime you to death.
