Default SWCC Neighborhood Cleanup

Does anyone have any information regarding the city-wide cleanup project tomorrow - http://www.phillycleanup.com - and our neighborhood in SWCC?

Would love to clean up some of this trash that makes the block look awful. (most of it caused by the idiot trashmen who leave more trash than pickup on Wednesday mornings).

Thanks
-Will

Some blocks have aranged for supplies with Philadelphia More Beautiful, if your block is not one of them, Deborah Williams from SOSNA will have supplies available at Marian Anderson Recreation Center. You can leave trashbags on any corner for pickup.

Unfortunately it looks like it's supposed to rain all night into tomorrow morning, so we'll see how the whole thing goes.

Subject: Reminder: Saturday Philly Spring Cleanup!

April 3, 2008
Dear :
Thank you for volunteering for the Philly Spring Cleanup. Don't forget! The Cleanup is this Saturday, April 5th, from 9am-2pm. It's going to be a great day, at the end of which we hope to have removed over 1 million pounds of litter and debris from our city's streets.
On Saturday, please sign-in at your Cleanup site: Newbold Neighbors Association Clean. Site location details are available online at www.PhillyCleanup.com .
Site leaders will be on-hand to provide you with instructions and equipment.
There is the potential for some light rain on Saturday morning, but don't let that deter you! Unless it's raining cats and dogs, I'll be out and I hope that you will be, too. In the event of weather, you can call 215-686-1776 on to find out the event status.
After the Cleanup, please join me at Lincoln Financial Field from 2pm - 5pm for the Post-Cleanup BBQ, being thrown by the Philadelphia Eagles. When you arrive at your Cleanup location in the morning, you'll receive a red wristband. That wristband will allow you to ride SEPTA for free until 6pm and will be your ticket to the BBQ. Many thanks to the Eagles, SEPTA, and our other generous event sponsors.
If we want to make Philadelphia the cleanest, most beautiful city it can be we all need to work together. Saturday's Spring Cleanup is a very important beginning to that process. Please come out to help and encourage all of your friends to do the same.
I hope to see you out working hard and then enjoying some well-deserved BBQ on Saturday.
As always, thank you for all you do for Philadelphia.
Sincerely,
Michael Nutter
Mayor of Philadelphia

Default Philly Clean Up Day!

Hi there!

I live between 18th and 19th on Fitzwater and when I went to register for the clean up day I noticed that there were no groups for our neighborhood--I tried contacting them to create one, but no one has gotten back to me....so, I created one anyway I along with some friends and neighbors am going to be at the Beauty Shop Cafe at 20th and Fitzwater at 9 am Saturday (I posted fliers there) with free cookies and trash bags for whoever gets there first. I had heard that there were some neighbors on the 2100 block of Fitzwater getting together, but there was nothing on the official website. Please tell all of your friends and neighbors--I think its going to make a big difference in the neighborhood

That's really good to know! Brian and I were thinking of taking a walk a little further down 22nd Street to offer our hands there, does anyone on 22nd Street need a hand if it isn't raining?

Best,
Jenn Lawson

Great. Sounds like a good meetup place. Kinda weird they don't have a location for our neighborhood being that they clean center city up til south street and leave south->washington to fend for ourselves.

I know it's probably been discussed before, but what trashcans were purchased and left on certain street corners? I guess if moved in front of a house, the sanitation crews would pick them up? Downside being, they could potentially overfill during the week and create more trash?

Sorry for the thread drift and mini rant, but I have to the defend the trash guys. I'm not saying they're perfect, but have you seen the way some of our neighbors put out trash? It's ridiculous. A cute paper boutique bag is absolutely the last thing I would use to put trash out in and yet I see it all the time in our neighborhood.

You live on 16th, right? I'm happy you plan to participate! It seems to only take a handful of committed people to keep the trash situation on a block under relatively good control. I say this as I notice that my block is kind of trashy today...oh well.

Yes it is pretty bad when I have pay the local homelss guy to clean up some of the neighbors trash that they throw out which then blows all over my street and then ends up in front of my house. i also get him once a week to clean the rest of my block since nobody else cares to clean up.....

cute boutique bags? eh, not on my block , jilly. maybe up closer towards Rittenhouse.

i think me and my guy decided we're going to clean up all our block's garbage and put in on the dbag, i mean, college kids stoop - they've already got 5 circulars....and various menus. what's another bag full of cardboard and 40s gonna hurt?

i kid, i kid.....sorta.

Do it do it do it. You need to start calling sanitation on them or something, your block went from completely clean when the movie was filming, to the dirtiest block in the neighborhood practically overnight. Someone along that block is a dirtball, if you know who it is, start reporting them!
