My dream (well, one of many) is to clean out the alley that runs between Bainbridge and Pemberton, 19th and 20th...I've only made it past the rear of four or so houses, but maybe I can get my neighbors on Pemberton to help on May 10th...

are you freaking kidding me? the freaking Streets dept left a love letter in our mailbox (is that legal?) with rules and regulations and inspiration. And they have the f*cking nerve to handwrite on it "Sweep your sidewalk from the stoop to the curb".
After getting a f*cking "maybe" to my question about whether or not they will come get the properly bagged garbage at my neighbors door, they have the derned nerve to write that... yeah yeah i know, i need to sweep the tree sheddings but ,......good god, its not like it was 18,000 crushed little barrel juicey things....tree sheddings! feck! its frickin nature! i am reeling. should I calm down?

Maybe a little. It's kind of funny that we're being reminded to sweep the sidewalk. Have they seen our streets? I think they're a little out of touch with reality. They need to mandate trash bagging and collection seminars, not send little notes about the stuff that drops from trees.

If you don't already know, TOMORROW (Saturday, May 10th) is another neighborhood cleanup day for us.
(It's not a City-wide cleanup but one of the scheduled cleanups sponsored by PMBC, the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee, for our 17th District. See http://www.phila.gov/streets/PMBC.html for details.) Your block captain may have already contacted Bill Stern, our district's PMBC clean block officer (http://www.phila.gov/streets/pmbc_cl..._officers.html), to get some trash bags & other supplies for your block, or if not, you can just go out there yourself, grab a broom, sweep & bag up some trash, put it on your corner, and the City will take it away. Last time my husband & I + my brother who happened to be visiting went out for just a few hours and it was amazing how much stuff we were able to clean up. It really doesn't take long and is VERY gratifying. If you don't already have your own bags & brooms, etc. I believe Deborah Williams of SOSNA will also be handing out supplies again, at MARC, like she did on City-wide Cleanup Day. Happy Sweeping!! PS And by the way, our next two scheduled PMBC cleanup days are Saturday July 12th & Saturday August 23rd. Mark your calendars now! |
