I reported it yesterday as well.

So far I've reached two property owners who, on the whole, were nice enough and ensured clean up by noon today.

One suggested a block clean up and that he/the mgmt company would be willing - and ever power wash - and I said thanks, not without tipping him to the extraordinary work of other neighbors on April 5th.

Another owner said that he is upset to know about the garbage and is a very "present" property owner...I said, ahem, then where were you for the past 4 days?

I've been doing what I can as time as allowed me in the past 3 days - I have a ratty 8 x 10 absolutely disgusting red shag carpet in our garbage , going out tonight, that was plopped on our sidewalk. gross. grrrr!

Edited to add: Just got through to the right people at PHA for 721 S 16th - and while it took a while, I found a woman who was very pleasant and willing to help, promising action of some sort today, and highly encouraged me to continue to be in touch with them! Good stuff.

Thanks Will and Dr G! I appreciate your help on our block immensely!

I'm keeping that list of #s for the properties whose landlords I have reached (there are some that I cannot find).

I am hoping that the double team effort of ticketing/fining via reporting to the authorities, in addition to direct phone calls to the owners, will help.

Man, I hope this isn't yet another set up for a let down.

I've seen wheelchairs having to go IN the street, while traffic is coming because people are putting out couches, boxes, bags of trash beginning the Wednesday night (a full week before trash day).

Hopefully some of your neighbors will take control of their trash.

Reminder: the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee of the Streets Department has designated Saturday, May 10 as our next cleanup day. Supplies are available through Bill Stern, our clean block officer, who can be reached at 215-685-3989.

Dr_G, is SOSNA going to be Bag Central at the Marian Anderson center again?

I believe so, I'll ask Deborah to contact Bill.

Dr_ G...that picture kills me. I might actually be weeping from sadness and embarassment.

Default PHA follow up

was just called by the mgr who was standing out front of 721 who said that it looked like the garbage was from 719 and that she'd give extra bags to her folks at 721. She was nice.

I did , however, give her the nudge that if 721 doens't think its theirs, and 719 doesn't think its theirs, garbage bags are going to help anyone as neither will put that stuff away!

Yup, sorry JTrain, but your block gets my vote for trashiest in the neighborhood, and that's saying something! Hopefully all your hard work will pay off.

When I walked my son by there this weekend he kept pointing at piece after piece of blowwy trash going "Daddy pick up, Daddy pick up..."

coming off a fantastic high from yesterday - our 1 yr anniversary - into the realization that our block is the trashiest is just depressing. flat out depressing. I need some rum.
