last year I fax-stalked the landlords to clean out their "tree square" (that sounds dirty) and they FINALLY did. I want to do it again to have them get a "no handbill" sticker because clearly, these dumbasssses will walk over 5+ plastic baggied circulars rather than throw them out.

After the film crew left, I do believe that the apartment south of said fratboys (who i think might be grad students in real life) was doing some renovating so there was, and still is, considerable garbage remaining.

Still, I hope that when I am cleaning some of the b00bs are out and see me doing it and that I lead by example. fat chance.

and by b00bs, I don't mean you, Will F.

I am organizing a group to clean up the area arround 24th street from greys ferry to christian, and the surrounding alleys. There are some large piles of trash in those alleys.

I have been unable to contact Bill Stern, his voicemail is full, perhaps I will try the Marion Anderson...

Anyway, we are starting at around 10am if anyone is interested. And meeting at the corner of 24th and Madison Sq.

Rain or Shine. (I guess)

Even if you don't connect up with some organized cleanup activity, I hope a lot of people find time to at least do >something< cleanup-related tomorrow. If you are not at an organized site, please do try to put trash at street corners. That will make it much easier for the Streets Department to deal with.
As long as the weather cooperates, I hope to concentrate my efforts at shoveling up the debris in the streets. There are far too many places in our neighborhood where you can put a chovel down in the street, push it 3 inches, and come up with a full shovel of dirt, leaves, and other trash.
Hope to see lots of bags at street corners tomorrow...

Default Head Start

Here's how badly we need this cleanup day:
I wasn't going to be available on Saturday, so I spent this evening working on just two streets: 1600 block of Catharine, and the 1600 block of Fitzwater. I never got out a broom--I used only a shovel--to pick up the dirt in the street, against the curb.
I also tackled a pile of leaves on the Fitzwater sidewalk that has been there (and growing) for at least 7 years. That pile alone took 11 refuse bags...

Default us too

Some of us will be out on the 1900 block of webster ... and, p.s. I saw GSpahn cleaning out 1600 Catharine with a shovel tonight as I drove by. We cleaned out the grates on Webster with a shovel in the fall and had about 8 CONTRACTOR bags of debris. It's a little overwhelming but it actually didn't take us that long for just two of us to do it, so ... it's easy once we get started! YAAAAYYYY for cleaner streets! It's exciting.

Looks like quite a success, we were out this morning, we had 13 neighbors on our block out cleaning, it was really nice to see a large turnout.

After we got done we took a walk up 16th and saw tons of bags on corners, either Gary's work from last night, or neighbors today, eitherway, it looked so much better.

I walked over to MARC and saw Deborah, Gary, Amy, and Ralf out cleaning. Deborah had kept a list of everyone who picked up supplies, and had almost two pages worth!!! The blocks around MARC looked great.

Seems like it was pretty effective, we'll have to do this more often!

Our block's haul -- there were another 4-5 bags on the other corner. We had 13 people helping at one point or another, although not all at once, and we picked up the e-mail addresses of three or four other people who weren't able to participate this time but would like to do it again. We didn't put out "move your car" signs but were able to shovel out most of the gutters in spite of the cars.

And everyone is psyched to do it again. This is great!

wow. what a great morning! I thought I'd be solo on my block but I met 3 from my block, and 2 from the block south who came up to ours! and a few went up north to the block from Bainbridge to South. I also migrated down to WIll Fulmer's block and helped. But what a glorious time. We managed some laughs and friendly b*tching about litterers (like the jerkface that threw out their Chik-Fil-A bag as we cleaned). I side-eyed the jerky college kid when I told him I picked up his 8 circulars. grrrrrr....

Great great great efforts by all. I am inspired. big time.

we're heading out around town - not sure where nor when, but I am confident that wherever we're going, we'll see the efforts of a lot of our fellow citizens.

oh , and thanks to everyone!!!!

I don't know about anyone else, but I found 4 drains that I never knew existed under piles of dirt...
