Yeah, I'm sure you are right, I can see that. To a certain extent at least. Because yes, though we are "DINKs" now, at one point early on in our house-hunt we were planning to adopt ONE child & we still think that could have worked pretty well with this floor plan.

Yeah, I knew we could count on you, LB. (Especially since we know you've actually seen our horns.)

Default shifting gears away from the garage debate...

Hey I know! Here's a way I think I can get this discussion going in another direction (yet still stay somewhat on topic)...

I forgot to mention that the developer on this project says he is in negotiations with Starbucks for one of the ground floor retail spaces in the mixed use building I mentioned up-thread, that they're planning to start building (soon, in 2008) on the corner of 20th & Washington.

Okay, discuss.

(Meanwhile I better get back to work now, or it's going to be yet another very late night for me...)

I'll believe it when I see it, there are a lot of much better locations for a Starbucks than 20th and Washington.

I mean really...this is appealing?
That house is ugly.

I was going to try my luck at sending an example link of my own back at ya, but it appears Google Street View hasn't made it there yet. However, I'm sure you are familiar with the block I'm talking about - the very ugly/institutional-looking non-garage fronts on the north side of South Street, I believe between 20th & 21st (adjacent to Ten Stone). That is the sort of design I think we all agree need to be avoided (with or without garages). And the row of non-garage houses down another block on South (between 19th & 20th) aren't so hot either.
OK, I think I corrected them, try again.

This is one of the newest houses on my block, it's by far the ugliest, cheapest construction I've seen, the interior is even worse, if that's at all possible. Here's what's even worse, here's the back:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&om=1...16672833727276

No reason the garage, or even just carport, couldn't have been in the back! I'd love to have that setup!
Oh, yes, how right you are! It is hard to understand WTF they would put a garage in there at all when they have that back area there just asking for a car port.

Also, that bay window is pretty hideous. I really don't understand why so many of the new houses with bays get them SO wrong.
(At least our house doesn't have one of those.)

It's starting asking price was, (take big drink of water, hold it in your mouth, now wait for it...)
$700,000!!!
(Now wipe water off of computer)

It's a horrible house, they've come down to $550,000 I think, which is still rediculous. It's sad, a nice non-garage bay window house just sold on our block for $500,000. The same house on this lot with the parking in the rear probably could have sold for $575,000-$600,000.

Holy crap, that's great. Judging from those photos & your description, that means our house must be worth at least a million by now.

It is amazing what some people think looks good.

I guess it's kinda like when you see someone dressed in a certain way, and while you think you wouldn't step foot out of your house looking like that, you also kinda know they must be checking themselves in their mirror saying "Damn, I look good!"
