I lived above Jouvay during the year before it opened. It was supposed to open when I moved in and a year later after I moved out it still wasn't open. I know that there were problems with the coffee shop owners from the start (but I don't think there were any problems with the building owner, who was a really good guy).
Sorry to see it go, hopefully something cool will go there soon, I loved the apartment upstairs. |

Hello Phillyblog,
My name is Jon and I'm the owner of the Beauty Shop Cafe at 2001 Fitzwater St. I want to let everyone know that we're having a sneak preview opening tomorrow from 12 noon til 5pm. The free coffee will be flowing so you should definitely check it out. We're very excited to join the community, and I'd like to thank everyone who I've already met for their enthusiasm about the new addition to the neighborhood. Hope to see you tomorrow. Jon. |

) Also, I was wondering about sandwiches too, and despite the busy-ness I did manage to ask... above the din the answer I think I heard was "in a few weeks." PS I also LOVE how the original sign remains intact + how the new one incorporates the original design. Also, the old hair dryer chair in the corner is a great touch. And, here's a good story... when I stopped yesterday & had a chat with Jon's Mom outside on the corner, she told me she met a long-time neighborhood resident who told her he remembered playing on the floor of the beauty shop when he was a little kid. Welcome to the neighborhood! My husband and I own a house and lot at the corner of 22nd and League -- and are most excited to see new businesses opening. A quick question for you -- Do you have any intention of purchasing a portable wheelchair ramp to allow for accessability into your coffee shop? I am a paraplegic and use a power or manual chair and would love to come in -- but you have a couple of steps. I am fiercely loyal to businesses in the area and currently there are no local coffee shops on South Street that I can get into, and I would love to make you my local coffee stop! Adam from the Sidecar purchased a portable folding ramp that he stores outside of his building and my husband often go into his business. A four foot folding ramp would cost you about $200. I will include a link below to where you can find them online. If you have any questions or would like to talk to me, please feel free to e-mail me at jennlawson@comcast.net. http://www.spinlife.com/category.cfm?categoryID=85 Best, Jenn Lawson |

Hello again Phillyblog,
We're officially opening tomorrow morning at 7am. We'll be open from 7am - 2pm on weekdays and 8am - 4pm on weekends for the next couple of weeks, then our hours will go to the evening on weekdays and night on weekends. Also, watch for our (now somewhat simple) menu to expand as the weeks go on. Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday and made our sneak peak such a success. Again, I can't express how excited I am to join the neighborhood. Can't wait to get to know everyone's favorite coffee (and tea) drinks. Hope to see you soon! Jon. |
