Important Announcements from SOSNA
Quote:
First -- a meeting announcement. The SOSNA NAC will be holding a Town Hall Community Meeting focusing on Public Safety on Tuesday, August 19, at 7 PM at St. Anthony's Senior Residences at 2309 Carpenter Street (entrance is at the side by the parking lot down the wheelchair ramp). Guests will include Captain Jerrold Bates of the 17th Police District, Inspector Thomas Lippo of Licenses and Inspections, and representatives from the Streets Department, the Planning Commission, and local elected officials.
Second, as I think most of you know, Southwest Center City was chosen as one of six neighborhoods for a "make yourself at home" marketing campaign. To help with that, the City is scheduling three-week sweeps through the neighborhoods addressing blight issues. Our area is scheduled to be worked on in November.
The folks handling the marketing campaign are also coordinating targets for clean and seal, vacant lot cleanup, tree planting, hydrant painting, etc.,
with the city and have asked SOSNA to provide a list of specific locations
to be addressed. Laura Blanchard, SOSNA's volunteer webmaster, took their checklist and put it online. See
http://www.southofsouth.org/about/ce..._services.html (but don't fill
it out unless you live between South Street and Washington Avenue; Broad Street and the Schuylkill River)
Please take a few moments to fill out the form, listing problem areas on your block or adjacent blocks. If you know an activist who is not online but would probably like to help, I hope you'll print out a copy and deliver to him or her.
There is a very tight turnaround for this -- the DEADLINE IS AUGUST 17. I
wish there were more time, but Laura and I are volunteers too, as you know, and it took a few days to find the time to put this form online and add the SOSNA addresses to my home computer.
Thanks for your quick response -- this could make a huge difference in our overall quality of life -- and I hope to see a huge turnout Tuesday night.
