Bars are not for children, most people go to bars to get away from kids, really what kind of parent would bring their kids to a bar anyway? Maybe you shouldn't have had children in the first place if you still hang out in bars. Its just irresponsible and makes you look like (and you are) a bad parent. I once had a kid and his dad at the bar and a couple next to them was making out, groping and cursing. Well the dad complained... Guess who I told to leave: The kid and his dad. Bars are NOT a place for children! Go to Chuckie Cheese.
Pffft, bringing my daughter with me to meet some friends for a bite at the Sidecar or the the Standard Tap at 5:00 p.m. doesn't make me look like a bad parent. Your assertions would seem reasonable if I strolled in with my kid at 10 p.m.

I agree. And seeing as we were just about the only customers when we had dinner "at the bar" Sunday night, I would think the bartender would be grateful for the tip.

I don't think (or hope not) anyone is bringing kids to a bar at night, I've taken my nephew to a bar plenty of times on a saturday afternoon to sit at the bar and have chicken fingers/whatnot, bartenders/others always happy to see a kid. (It's for instance the McDonald's at Broad n Snyder I would'nt bring him to again).

Of course since you're at a bar and you bring a kid you shoudln't get pissed if people are drunk/cussing, it's an adult place. (I'd add the same for bringing/not bringing kids to a tattoo parlour as well).

I vividly remember going to AnnMaries's as a kid and playing shuffleboard (or whatever it was called) and all the patrons putting change on the machine for me to play.

What a bunch of insane people on that site. I agree with the previous poster who said you want to respect society, but when you read the comments by the posters on that site, its sickening how much people think everyone shoud be exactly like themselves.

I take it like UglyandProud, sometimes when I am bored, I go the bar at noon on Sat and Sunday to watch a Phillies/Flyers game with other fans and drink. I don't care if there is a kid in there, and I have even given them change to play the arcade machines, but don't blame me if I drop an F-Bomb when McNabb throws an interception.

I think out of all the commenters on that site, only like 2 realize that we aren't talking about Dirty Frank's. I'm willing to bet that most of them aren't even old enough to drink and are unable to discern a gastro-pub from a bar.

Ahhh, the cherished right to be vulgar and offensive. In my experience, I've heard worse walking down the street with my daughter. It amazes me that people don't have the common courtesy not to drop f-bombs in front of my daughter ... in any setting.

Those comments on that site are sooo ridiculous. As mentioned above, I think most of the people who are so bent out of shape dont' know the difference between a "bar" and a restaurant with a bar or a gastro-pub. Perhaps this is an urban/suburban/rural divide. Where I grew up there were "bars"--the corner dives with the occasional popcorn bowl or hot dog in the microwave and "restaurants" that served alcohol. In center city and surrounding n'hoods, there are literally hundreds of restaurants that also have bars. I take my children to these restaurants and enjoy having a drink or two while they get Shirley Temples. This does not seem particularly selfish to me, although we usually try to arrive by 6 or so, so that we are out of the restaurant by 7 or 7;30 at the latest.

I also try to pick restaurants that are "loud" and do not take them to small BYO's or other intimate spots. They just aren't able to be still and be quiet enough in those sorts of places.

I can't imagine most people would consider bringing a kid to Dirty Franks to belly up to the bar. I think some people just cant conceptualize the vast array of options that we enjoy in philly or understand the difference between a bar/club and a restaurant with a nice bar. Common sense people!
