why do i have to be drunk, vulgar, or misguided to not want children in a bar? get out of here.

if there was some way to guarantee these bar-children will be well-behaved and will NOT squeal and make a lot of noise (it's asinine that anyone would even wish that upon someone else), maybe i'd reconsider. but it's like the friendliest rottweiler in the world being walked without a leash: i have no way of knowing that beast is not going to rip my arm off. if a parent walks into a bar holding a seven-year-old's hand, i have no way of knowing he won't get bored while mom and pop sip pints and chow beet salad, running through the place, arms out and making airplane noises (which i have seen with my own two eyes at a bar in center city).

next time you're at a bar and your child does something like this, ask for a show of hands and see how many people think it's as adorable as you do.
Whatever dude ... in my experience grown adults are capable of being equally f'ing annoying. I run into them every time I go out.

I'm a considerate guy. If my child is screaming, I'll excuse myself and take her home. If she's making "airplane noises" I'm sure that you can deal with it. That, in my estimation, is less annoying that much of the **** that is commonplace in a bar on any given night. If you don't like it, you can go elsewhere.

Hate to break it to you, but a great deal of parents really don't care whether you think our kids are cute or not.

And sadly enough, you're basically SOL. As long as it is legal and folks are permitted to bring children in to Standard Tap (what was that someone mentioned about a CHILDREN'S EVENT at ST?!?!) and places like it, you're stuck with it. Because there's nothing wrong with enjoying brunch at a nice pub with a child every once in a while. Someone mentioned this somewhere: all bars are not created equal; that's why we have the distinction between restaurant and bar and gastro-pub. Make fun of it all you want, but guess what, brah? We will continue to bring our children out for a nice brunch/lunch/early supper. So unless you want to stick to McGlinchey's and Dirty Frank's, I don't know what to tell you. Deal with it or stay home.

Last time I checked, none of the bars I've gone to with my daughter had one of those machines.

Don't get mad at me because people don't want to be around your kids 24/7. You want to take your kids to a strip club? Go for it. Why stop there, take them to some XXX movies too. Its all natural right? They'll learn someday and they'll be more well rounded.
Jeez. You try to tell parents their kids aren't welcome somewhere at sometime and it's a constitutional crisis. Somebody call John Adams ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah the couple of hours we're in a bar with our kids translates to you being subjected to them 24/7.

Children in bars........I simply don't want to be around that at all.
In restaurants with a bar, maybe, not after 7:30PM

Hell my children never even saw me drink !

This is all because of the no smoking laws....

ok so I forgot the winkie - I thought it was over-the-top enough not to be considered literal.

I like people who like to frequent those type of places, but think it would be way too "Everybody Loves Raymond" of them to call them anything other then a bar even though the distinction is pretty obvious and relevant to this discussion.

If a bar is selling a $12 burger and $7 Chimay, they are looking for customers who can afford $12 burgers and $7 Chimays. A lot of those customers are going to end up being mature professionals who decide to breed, and guess what, we're going to be sitting our kids next to your "too cool to say gastropub" asses more and more, so get used to it.

Ready for it? ...

Here it comes. ...

I don't care. If you don't want to deal with my kids, frequent a place where I won't (or can't) take them. I don't care how passionate people feel about this. I'm not altering my behavior for you. In the words of Dennis Leary, life sucks. Get a f'ing helmet.

I'm sorry to distract from the wise words of the guru and towlie, but there is something really important that i want to talk about now...

why the hell is standard tap having a children's event described as "brunch" from NOON TILL 2PM?!! every kid i know (below 2, given) is NAPPING from 12-2 and has been up since 7 at the latest. Standard Tap - please offer us an awesome brunch from, say, 930 to 1130. Otherwise, I kindly request someone in the neighborhood do the same on the weekend. maybe bob and barbaras?
