Excellent news! Great work by police sketch artist, observant co-workers, police, and of course the victim in working with the sketch artist to get the info out there. Lock him up.

I think that it's pretty close and might have been suspicious when the guy removed his plats.

My car was broken into for the 3rd time in a yr and a half. Luckily they don't smash the windows, just pick the lock somehow. They made away with some change I keep for tolls and meters in the glove and a stack of business cards. Have to wonder if it's someone on the block. Anyway, keep an eye out for your own goods.

I meant to post this a few weeks ago, but I've been out of town. My friend and I were walking home from the Sidecar down 22nd Street on the night of July 15. It was late, after 2 am, and two men hit her in the head, knocked her down, and tried to steal her purse. We were almost directly in front of the Church there, but on the West side of the street. She had an over the shoulder purse. I had a purse that went around my neck and across my chest, so it is basically attached to me. They didn't touch me, so let that be a lesson to women out there. Wear a purse that is too difficult for someone to try to snatch. She struggled against these guys and was able to hold onto her purse. She is much more brave than I would have been. In any case, I made sure she got into a cab and was safely on her way home. She didn't want to call the police or go to a hospital. The next morning, I called her, and she didn't remember any of it. Turns out she had a concussion. She is totally fine, but I just wanted to warn women to be careful out there.

Just a quick comment about wearing purses that are wrapped around you to avoid muggings...I attended a neighborhood meeting where I used to live (Bucktown in Chicago) when a woman spoke who had been entagled by her purse while being mugged. Unfortunately, she was dragged along while the mugger attacked her, robbed her, and then hurt her by forcing her to knock into everything in her way - trees, flower pots, etc.
She was badly beaten and bruised. Her entire face was black and blue. It was truly a heartbreaking sight. Please consider leaving your purse at home. If you must, take $20-40 bucks, your ID, a lip gloss, and maybe a credit card if you think your cash can't cover you. Leave your purses at home, and you'll be much safer - anywhere you go in the city. |

But you are right... it is best to leave a purse at home if you plan to be out late. It is sometimes easier said than done, though.

And the call the police after being victimized the way your friend was. I'm glad you both are ok.
