No one involved was from the area, unfortunately the scum balls had to pick our area to commit their crime.

Default Megan's Law Fugitive List has some folks on the lam from our area

The new Megan's Law Fugitive Digest includes, on p. 7, a guy who lived in our area for a while, but is missing. I think I've seen him since, so can you please keep an eye out for him?

www.ppdonline.org/det/

His last listed address was a notorious drug house that was razed to prepare for what would become Montrose Park. I think it was 931 S. 22nd, one of the southern lots that create the park.

Default NEw activity/robbery on Montrose

I dont have many specifics but just wanted to alert the neighbors that last nite around 7 pm there was a robbery on 22nd Montrose and two guys were aprehended but a third was still on the loose. As the cops were entering the house in question I heard glass shatter from a different area closer to 23rd street. I saw at least 7 cops on foot and about 6 or so cars racing thorught he area dn at one point were all parked at 23rd and catherine.

Subject: [southwest_center_city] crime alert: 20th & South Streets

The following note was dropped under my door on May 10, regarding an event which apparently occurred Friday night. I thought it was worth passing along the notice to the folks on this list as well.

------------------------------------------
May 10, 2008

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Last night at 11:15 pm on the 20th block of South, two young women (friends of ours) were robbed at gunpoint. They were standing on our front stairs, about to enter our apartment when a young black male, walking north on 20th Street, approached with a gun and took both of their bags.

We wanted to inform you of this unfortunate and frightening event, and urge everyone to be more aware of where and when they are on the street. If you are in the area and have had a similar incident occur recently, please contact authorities and mention our incident as well. If this is a problem on our block and more than just one isolated incident, it is best to bring it to light immediately.

Best,
Your Neighbors @ South 20th

Have you found anything else out about this? Did they catch the other guy? I live really close to here, but didn't hear/see a thing!

Default late night solicitors

I just thought I would join the conversation from the SWCC yahoo group below. I had a similar experience. A WM probably in his mid-twenties in a baseball cap came to my door at about 6:00 pm and then 12:30 am last week and rang the door bell and pounded several times. I have never seen the guy and noticed him leaving toward 22nd St. I was miffed when he came around dinner but really bothered when he woke me up on a weekday for whatever scam he thought he was pulling.

I have never experienced any real issues here, but this made me uncomfortable. So be on the lookout.

Mon May 12, 2008 6:23 am (PDT)

I think same dude(s) rang my door bell around the same time. I didnt
answer but heard a man talking to a neighbor (through their window)
about needing $20 for a copay to pick up a prescription. he offered
to leave his wallet, etc. and bring back the $20 in the AM when he had
money...

I guess the pills needed to be taken at some time between 10pm and the
morning as it was imperative for him to get his script that night and
not wait til he had the $$ in the morning. He ended up walking away
as well.

From Southwest Center City Yahoo Group:
>
> Please be on the alert: This past Tuesday evening around 10 PM, as
she was approaching her house pulling her wheeled carrying bag, my
neighbor saw two males at 18th & Fitzwater, one with 2 dogs, and the
other sort of hanging about. By the time she got into her house,
someone was banging on her door screaming "I need help, I have an
emergency". Looking through the peek hole she recognized the one male
(WM and the one without the dogs) and told him through the door to
call 911. He repeated that he had an emergency and that he needed her
help and that he had already called 911. Eventually he left.

I saw that stuff on the Yahoo! Group too. I wasn't sure from the first reply, but now in reading moritz's here, it sounds like a definite pattern is emerging. I plan to be at tomorrow night's Community Relations meeting at the 17th Police District, so if I learn anything more I will come back & post it here.

Meanwhile, please be cautious everyone!! (And spread the word to your neighbors.)

PS And if it happens to you, call 911!

Default ...it just happened...

The same thing just happened this morning at my house on the 1900 block of Fitzwater. A caucasian male with a baseball cap knocked on the door. Luckily my husband was home ( I was on my way home from work). The dog barking didn't seem to bother him. He made up a story about how our dogs played together and then said he lived on Pemberton. He wound up asking for money for medications, but then walked to a house on 16th and Kater. My husband followed him while he was on the phone to the police. The police took 6 phone calls to finally come out and when they did they said they didn't need a police report, that they would talk to him, but it seemed harmless. Maybe it is, but next time it may not be. FYI.

Same guy, same story, except he lived on Bainbridge when I heard him talking. Also, if I heard correctly he has a German Sheppard that he walks. Not that it makes a difference, but he was well spoken and apologetic while selling his story.

I advised our new captain, Capt. Gillespie, and handed him a copy of the blogs concerning this at tonite's 17th District meeting.

Capt. Gillespie also passed this along: 2 robberies/holdups occurred in the neighborhhood on Friday night/Saturday morning. 1) 5/9: 600 Block of S. 20th Street, 10:25 PM, 1 BM, 20-25 yrs old. 2) 5/10: 1700 Fitzwater Street, 2:37 AM, 2 BM, 18-24 yrs. old (one w/goatee). They're still at large, and seem to be targeting young females.

Capt. Gillespie is urging everyone to be extra careful.
