Pity doesn't solve the problem. Just because there are worst elements just south of here doesn't mean we have to accepts the trash that is up here. The city needs to provide the 17th with sufficient FULL TIME staff to properly patrol the entire 17th district, not just the souther end.

So from what I understand, both of these types of people are more likely targets of robbers. That is, a person dressed in all black (for example) might be assumed to be a waiter/waitress who just got off from work & so is likely to be carrying cash tips. Someone who looks to be of hispanic descent & perhaps dressed a certain way could be taken for a delivery person who might also be carrying a large quantity of cash. (However I've also heard that someone like this might not even report such a crime. Again, for example illegal aliens who might distrust authority.)
That's difficult for me to understand. A waiter/waitress with 1500 worth of tips in a day/night must be doing extremely well!! .... better than many of us as full time employees. When I pick up an order at Lazaro's (great pizza.....a little plug here), I see their drivers taking off with one, maybe 2 orders at a time - so the cash they bring back to the store and hand in is minimal every time they do.

Yeah I guess I'm thinking more than one day's tips and/or pay. And I agree that carrying anything near that amount of cash isn't very wise, but this is what I've heard that some people are known to do. (And unfortunately they are profiled by the bad guys.)

Then again I'm just throwing something out there that I've heard. Who really knows what the real story is with this particular $1500 theft.

Not exactly breaking news, but apparently the Apostolic Church was vandalized last Saturday (Nov. 17?)

According to the SouthPhillyReview police blotter for 11/22:

Quote:
House of worship vandalized Police are looking for information on the vandalism of Church of the Lord, 701 S. 22nd St.
At about noon Saturday, someone threw a brick through a stained-glass window, causing $1,000 in damages, Lt. Joe Dougherty of South Detectives said, adding that was all police knew at this time.
To report information, call South Detectives at 215-686-3013.

Judging from the address, this would be the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith....

In other news, the Dollar General on 23rd/South was just robbed. I was walking into South Square at about 6:55pm when the DG guard came running out for someone to call the police because they had just been robbed. I think DG closes at 7pm so of course that's the best time for them to be hit.

Not sure how the crime went down though.

Default Police on Christian St?

Does anyone know why there were 6-7 squad cars on the 1900 block of Christian St? There were multiple uniformed police officers as well as a plain clothes officer.

According to the 17th district, someone's alarm was tripped and there was an investigation. Nothing was found, no reason to be alarmed.
