ok, me again.

so Angela says that first I would need to live on the 600 block of 16th street to request a light, and I don't. And also said that the council/district has no more budget for this (I think she said council). But when I described the incident and how really totally dark it is she kindly said she'd write a letter to the streets dept and will cc me on it.

am also sending in, per JillyS , a request for the park commission to prune the trees on that block

Bleah. Let me suggest that you contact Jim Campbell of Campbell/Thomas (architects). Jim is on the board of SOSNA as well as involved with the South Street West Business Association -- and he was involved in the group that got the relatively new lighting for South Street -- five or six years back, I think. He might have some ideas.

Campbell/Thomas' website is http://www.campbellthomas.com/ . Alternatively, a couple of our other SOSNA board members, such as DavidZ or Dr_G, might have a sidebar conversation with him about this tomorrow before or after the board meeting if it doesn't run too long.

The Treeman park is absolutely disgusting and a disaster waiting to happen.

If the treeman building doesn't crumble to the ground itself, the likelihood of someone getting assaulted there is pretty big since the park is dark, illmaintained, heavily wooded, and hosts an open crack house next door.

I think Universal owns the property so don't expect anything from those f-'n deadbeats. Heard from SOSNA a while ago that the building is slated for demolition. Universal is probably waiting for the city to do it so the legend himself won't have to part from his hardearned cash.

I'm working up enough motivation to do the pruning myself... with my chainsaw.

Edited this post to add:

Now that I think about it, I am almost 100% sure I've seen a sign that the park is maintained (hrmph!) by Philadelphia Horticultural Society. I will walk by tomorrow.

I'm happy to ask Jim about any ideas he might have.

Default assaults - possibly a related one

I am at 19th and Webster. Don't know if this is a related assault or not, but my neighbors reported that someone was mugged around 7:30pm on Halloween evening. I don't know any of the details or if the police have connected that one with the others that have happened, but thought I'd mention it.

Welcome. Are you on 19th or on Webster? [Edit: Just generally curious...my husband and I cleaned up the big lot at 1911-1939 Webster for a long time]

So, looks like a crew is on the 600 block of 16th trimming the trees! I have NO idea if the Fairmount Park Tree form I filled out (thanks JillyS) had any influence, and am sure that there are greater influences out there, but it is true that I sent in the form 2 weeks ago and today they are trimming trees. How about that?!?!!!!

That's awesome! Maybe the fact that they got at least 2 requests at the same time made a difference? I wonder if that means I'll get a tree today? Nah...

Go Fairmount Park Commission!

Any new news on the tree man lot?

Default SWCC crime thread

I was walking down 22nd last night and heard a lot of yelling when i was about at South. By the time I got to my house (before Fitzwater) there were 7 police cars and more sirens on the wayat that intersection. Anyone know what happened? I was a little wary about entering my house because my entrance is on the alley and people have fled there with guns before. Then i never saw anything more. So, just curious.......
