whoever is responsible seemed to know what they were doing because there were no signs of broken glass.
so, do yourself a favor and protect it while you have it.
Grr!

What has the insurance said?

haven't notified the insurance quite yet?
just met with the policeman this morning and was going to call the insurance after work.
thankfully, it's not a huge loss. the car was 11 years old.

A few years ago I had my old beater car stolen (88 Dodge shadow). Sadly it was recovered in north philly after a "joyride" -- quite beat up and the inside doused in gasoline. (maybe they couldn't find a match or lighter to finish the job?) At the time the cops told me that sometimes this is an "initiation" type mission for some kids...since it obviously isn't for any financial benefit or even transportation.

I recovered my ice scraper and called it a day.

I'll hope your car just got lost and will find it's way home in one piece. Sorry man, it sucks to have your car stolen no matter what the circumstances.

I had a coworker who had an original Beetle stolen. It was rusted out (as they all did), dented and just generally a wreck. He collected his insurance cash and only occasionally thought of it fondly.

Five years later, the cops caught the thief and got the car. It was in mint condition--not a scratch on the outside, new interior and an eight-speaker stereo system. At the trial, the guy started yelling that someone owed him for all the work. My friend decided in the end not to take it back (and repay the insurance company) because the thief knew his name and address.

Sorry, I don't make it to posting here often, but my friend and I were walking home from yoga three weeks ago when I believe a mugging was attempted. We separated at 18th and Lombard, where I turned down South. Two dudes following us before that, one continues to follow me. I pick up on it, he comes closer, grabs my yoga bag (gross!) and I started running and made it into the Grad Hospital through the entrance that people smoke at. I waited in there and told a security gaurd and then called someone to meet me to walk me the rets of the way home. Oh, I checked on my friend and nothing happened to her, thankfully.

If not for the second half of your story, I'd have thought you used to worked with my hubby! He had a '67 bug stolen. Had to have been stolen by a tow truck b/c it hadn't run in months. We called all the assorted possible City agencies, but they denied hauling it off. The police did turn up the plate down by the airport a few months later -- but no sign of the car.

A.
