Gianna Jr's also delivers to our area. I think they add a slight delivery fee, but the bike dudes who deliver are always really nice and it has a nice mix of vegan/vegetarian and meat, so everyone can order from them and be happy.

Could we also create a place for service recommendations? I have found a couple of good contractors in the process of renovating, and a couple of really terrible ones. With all the work going on, I'm sure that neighbor-approved help would be a great resource.

Along those lines, can anyone recommend an appliance repair person? My dryer quit on me.

I don't know if it's too obvious, but for delivery, there's always Dining In, and we fall within most, if not all, of the places' delivery ranges for that.

Default Sub-thread: Post Offices, stamp vendors, 5:00 mailboxes

They killed the Post Office at 19th and Montrose about seven years ago, the stinkers. Our post office is now on the 2900 block of Grays Ferry Avenue. Other reasonably close Post Offices include the 1900 or 2000 block of Chestnut, I forget which; the Land Title Building (Broad and Sansom), and the retail outlet at Broad and Castle. I think that a couple of our local shops, including the South Square Market and the Christian Street Pharmacy, sell stamps, but I'm not sure. Folks in our neighborhood should probably know that you can buy stamps online and your postal carrier will deliver them to you; there's a modest fee, something like a buck, which is worth it to avoid the trek to a postal place.

This also raises the issue of 5:00 mailboxes. The only one I'm aware of is in front of Omega Pizza, on the northeast corner of the 22nd and South intersection. There used to be one at 19th and Montrose, but I think it went away when they started construction.

Used to be 22nd Street just north of Spruce. There's a FedEx facility on Grays Ferry, a block or so south of The Pathmark At The End of the Galaxy. There's a FedEx/Kinkos at, I think, 16th just north of Locust, with copier. For those taking their parcels on the #17 bus, the 20th and Market FedEx/Kinkos may be more convenient.

[must stop this...every time I go to sign off there's another question!]

i guess since you include the bsl, might as well mention the c (south philly to west oak lane), #27 (plymouth meeting mall/barren hill to center city) and #32 (roxborough to center city) buses. all travel north and south via broad street.

...just a few off the top of my head.

Edit: sorry I missed the FedEx quote. The above are USPS drop boxes. I think there is a FedEx drop box up 23rd just north of Locust? Not sure though.

Other than 22nd and South, do you know if any of these have 5:00 pickups? A remarkable number of the boxes down by me have 10:00 a.m. pickups, alas.
