Ummm... I think that must be one of the understatements of the year!

But I, too, encourage everyone to turn out for this one.

Shown below is the notice for the September 13 meeting, which I am unable to attend. Please, if you are eligible to vote or to serve on the board, please attend this and the October meeting to cast a vote for transparency and good governance in SOSNA's operations.

I have resigned from the election committee in response to an OHCD ruling about the June 19 meeting which renders me ineligible to vote; I cannot in good conscience continue to serve on that committee. After I have reflected on the issue I will post further on the SOSNA: Past, Present, and Future thread.

Dear Members:

Attached and pasted below is the flier for the September General meeting. Notices were delivered to the Block Captains/Representatives earlier this week. Leaflets are also available in the SOSNA office. The meeting September 13, 2006 will be held at Graduate Hospital in the Boehm Auditorium @ 7:30 pm. Please tell a neighbor, bring a friend.

NOMINATIONS OF CANDIDATES

The NAC service area is Broad Street west to the Schuylkill River and Washington Avenue north to South Street.

The NAC Election will be held at the SOSNA General Meeting on October 11, 2006 at Graduate Hospital Boehm Auditorium at 7:30 pm and will be monitored by the Election Committee and the Office of Housing and Community Development of the City of Philadelphia. The polls will close at 8:30PM sharp.

Oh, and what's up with the SOSNA election in October? I'm not happy that LB felt she had to withdraw from elections due to irregularties. This deserves better airing.

I'd like to hear more about that and where that stands.

Is SOSNA being more and more exclusionary in its election processes?

At the September General meeting, the person making a report on behalf of the election committee noted that only 24 people (who were not currently on the board) were eligible to run or to vote in the upcoming election. I'm not sure how many residents our little section of the City actually has, but I'll bet that those 24 people represent a very small percentage.
