God, I wish Juliana's would expand their hours.
And that old clothing store would also make a great cafe/restaurant, especially if they kept the bakelite enamel facade and the old neon sign.

Steven Starr could pull it off, but then again he only caters to YUPPIES.
How could Starr draw in people from the neighborhood?

OR the long version ......

Steven Starr could pull off fixing up .... that old clothing store [that] would also make a great cafe/restaurant, especially if they kept the bakelite enamel facade and the old neon sign .... but ...... then again Steven Starr only caters to YUPPIES. ....... therefore it raises the question about ......how could Starr draw in people from the neighborhood [who are largely not YUPPIES]?

Sheesh ......... seriously you mean you did not understand that?

Joely

..

PS- Thanks for confirming my impressions as to why most people come over here, look around, read a number of posts, but will not type a single post of their own.

Joely, unlike most I don't have problem with your posts and I can actually follow along for the most part but why did you pick or pick on Steven Starr? Do you have some inside info on his preference for baked enamel? I appreciate your enthusiasm for this neighborhood and would love nothing more than to see some trendy high-end eateries make it further down Passyunk but to arbitrarily throw one of the many restauranteers names into the discussion alienates your base and causes your skeptics to howl. I'm sure there are many capable restauranteers that would be up to the task of creating a nice restaurant in this area.

Its just an old journalistic trick. Watch:

In a small saucepan President George and First Lady Laura Bush over medium low heat, melt butter; add flour and salt. Stir to blend Osama bin Laden well. Gradually add milk. Stir constantly Marilyn Monroe until thickened. Stir in paprika, diced dill pickle and pimento. Serve Sonny and Cher over fish, salmon patties or Madonna salmon loaf.

See how that article is more appealing than this one?

PS~ Thanks for some encouragement. Yes I am aware that you are a very alert guy, with a good reading comprension level. Boy did I overestimate the rest of this gang (They won't understand that, no worry).

I would have said Steve Poses rather than Steven Starr because Steve Poses was a Philadelphia restauranteur who was even more famous than Mr. Starr! Poses is still on the food scene, albeit in the catering end of it.

POSES

It all began on a used six-burner stove in 1973. Steve Poses’ opened Frog, a little storefront restaurant at 16th and Spruce Streets in Philadelphia. Philadelphia Magazine named Frog Philadelphia’s “Best Restaurant” of the last quarter century. The Commissary restaurant followed a few years later and stands as a landmark in Philadelphia's culinary history. Born of the two, Frog Commissary Catering represents a Philadelphia tradition of innovation and excellence.

The Frog Commissary Cookbook, initially published in 1985, is the best selling cookbook in the region’s history and available today.

Today, more than twelve thousand events later, Frog Commissary Catering relies every day on the same values that drove Frog and The Commissary . Our goal is to imagine, plan and execute delicious and visually stunning events.

Three decades after he helped start a culinary revolution in Philadelphia, Steve Poses is still stirring the pot everyday. Steve works along side Frog Commissary’s team of hospitality professionals. Whether in the kitchen working with the culinary team, in the office planning menus and working with the Event Managers, or at events, 100% of Steve’s professional time is dedicated to Frog Commissary and it’s clients. Together they blend unparalleled experience with a constant drive to innovate.

Frog Commissary is proud of its long history as the exclusive caterer at
The Franklin Institute, Independence Seaport Museum, and The Mann Center for the Performing Arts. A great team carries forward the Frog Commissary tradition and continues to set standards in the Philadelphia's hospitality industry.

Today little Frog's used six-burner stove has grown into a state of the art facility in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties neighborhood.
Noah’s Kitchen has been added for the production of innovative kosher events.
