You guys had to see that triangle not too long ago, before it was fixed up by Fumo. Talk about a hangout for punk kids....heh. (large awning with bench seats) Years back it was a gas station.

Geoff, I saw your row of trees along Wharton between
9th and 10th. Yes, you did an incredible job. They look superb.

Boy I hope you're joking.

It was a gas station, a vacant gas station, a steak place called "Mugsy's" which sat derelict for several years before it finally opened. Then it was Ishkabibbles, Inky's, then Cippollone's Home Plate. This last one was the best operation on that site. Then they got tired of running that business, and the property sat vacant again. Then it was torn down to make way for the fountain, which had some permitting issues, which finally got worked out to give us the little piazza that we have today.

Now let's put some trees in it.

My youngest son recently moved to South Philly (from our home in the 'burbs), just a few blocks away from that fountain. About two weeks ago, I took him and his roommate out to dinner, and as we were walking past the fountain, we just had to stop and throw some pennies in for good luck. So I'm wondering....what's with the music?

HUH? Are you $hittin' me?

Well, then I guess there are a lot of like-minded people down here in South Philly who feel that way which would explain the many trash-riddled and devoid-of-shade streets 'round these parts.

Trash is a problem however TRASH or LACK OF TREES is not THE
problem. I was passing through Reed Street on my way over to that
excellent park over at 6th and Wharton Streets. Gee, that's a bright
oasis in South Philadelphia!

I passed by 925 Reed Street. "What is this." I wondered as I sauntered
over to inspect the L&I (Licenses and Inspections) placard.

Hmmmmm, dated from March 03 and a second one from April '05.

But no work. There's a huge deep hole and the facade is boarded over
so no one slips in and kills themselves.

THE CAUSE? Undertaxing UNIMPROVED or BLIGHTED property. This is
one. If you do a walk through, let me know if you agree this is Philadelphia's
downfall. The owner does not have to look at it. He lives in Maryland.

Word. Cipps had the best choc chip water ice. I didnt care for the food, but the owner was cool as hell...and had a Dodge Viper. ;-)

Trees would def make that deal much much nicer. THe fountain is neat, but it does look bleak.
