no acme is good but I'm glad we have a grocery store (I'm in roxborough) nearby even if it's an acme. at anyr ate, I'm posting here as I used to ride the BSL frequently. I loved it. It always struck me how it was cooler in teh summer than the much newer El cars. I never felt unsafe...although I was disturbed one morning when I noticed a young black male at race-vine (my stop) masturbating while leaning against a pole. He looked to be about 17 or 18, clearly not a student at nearby Roman. what really bothered me even more is that when he saw that I noticed, he kept on yanking it and even look at me and smiled. the train came (before he did thankfully) and he put it back in his pants and got on. wtf?
other than that, I've felt safer than on the better used El. I wish it came more often off-peak but I suppose that is a function of the ridership.

Default Near 13th and Passyunk

This thread blew up today!!!! I'll sum up my points:

I just moved nearby 13th and Passyunk about two weeks ago. So far, it's been great. I'm very happy with it.

ACME: Acme has a great program now that lets you put together a shopping order online, and either pick it up at the store for $5, or have it delivered to your house for $10. No lines, no wandering around isles... it's well worth the $5. Just be prepared to be oggled at by the customer service people. They are never in a good mood.

BSL: I've ridden the subway for a few years to visit a friend at Snyder. Never had any problems. Now, if you take it all the way up to Fern Rock. That's a different story entirely. I've had a few problems up above the Temple/Girard area. Mainly in the afternoons with bands of kids. I dont like to ride up there anymore.

Noise: It is definitely a little noisy at night some times. But it just takes getting used to. I'm probably about the most paranoid person in the world, so I spent the first two nights here poking my head out the window at every noise. But that wore off pretty quickly.

Access to the city: Besides the subway, Passyunk is a well lit walk all the way up to South. I've already walked it a few times at night with friends. Obviously, you need to watch your back and be aware. But that's true anywhere in the city.

My wife and I are young (mid twenties) and we work at home, so we wanted to live in the city. This was the nicest area we found within our budget. The question we both have gotten constantly is "Why did you move here?" I always say... It's a great place to live, with easy access to the rest of the city.

On-line ACME, that sounds interesting. Do they take coupons?

Thats the coolest part -- yes, they do take coupons, and they email more coupons. I get $5 off coupons in the mail from Acme, and they take those also. So the "fee" for shopping online is basically free.

I have only done the home delivery option once, when I lived in Glenside. I have done store pick-up down here twice already.

I am bumping the thread as a resource. Malloy said the secret code
word. In Philadelphia its pronounced Ac-A-Me. In the rest of the world its Acme.
