So every night I notice a large group of black males sitting on a private residence step around 10pm-1am when I cruise by at night.
The local immigrants are confronted with drug activity in front of there own step yet they do not want to call the cops since they have to live near this group of fine young black males. What should a private row home owner do when the group of males continue to sit on there step to conduct business? Is it illegal to sit in front of a private residence and block the enterance to a home you don't even live at in the City of Philadelphia?? Police have been called many times yet they are right back on the steps as soon as they leave. This corner used to be a Operation Safe Streets corner, but that was just hype once Mayor Street ran out of overtime pay... If they are not on the corner, they rest on the steps! (i mean stoop) |

I've submitted a report and left a VM with the community relations officer of the 17th already, but they are still slangin rock, on da stoop.
They are actually from the smaller streets in the hood and come to Tasker St for drive thru service on the larger street. Last edited by NewBolder : 07-01-2008 at 10:10 PM. |

I'm not sure if the immigrants are cool with the "brothas"... It's a mixed asian/black area with some old head whites.

The asians are definitely not cool with what goes on. The degree of tolerance depends on which asians we're talking about and as with anyone it depends on how many renters to homeowners you have on the block. Thankfully the owners of Plan Eat Thai are a lot more involved/less scared than the old chinese owners who didn't speak english. The new owner of Da Yi also seems to have been successful in pushing the kids around the corner a bit. Anyway, I wouldn't really call it a mixed area. South of Dickinson is probably 70% asian. It just appears that the demographics are different because a subset of one demographic is hanging out on the corner all day and night while the most of the other one is working all day and sleeping all night. But yeah, The problems come from 4 or 5 houses, each on different blocks. All those other kids come down from Reed and Dickinson. |
