Neighborhood bars - the best?
New to the city. I live in South Philly near 12th and Washington. I was wondering where the best neighborhood, hole-in-the-wall type bars are within a few blocks walking distance. Or any other cool bars you recommend that are either in walking distance or a short drive. Thanks!

Pope. Walk south down 12th and make a left on Dickinson, it will be on your right. The Royal is good too. If you want real dive bars try Ray's Happy Birthday Bar and the Dive.

The Royal
1601 POPE Ray's South Philly Taproom (if you're willing to treck that far). The only place I've generally avoided is Grumpy's. as it's one of the last bars in the area that seems to cater to South Philly meatheads (as opposed to hipster meatheads).
