I found a rehabbed rowhome for rent at 25 th and federal. It is described as up and coming and has off street parking. I am a single female coming from Baltimore and have two dogs. I have lived in a transitional neighborhood for the past 4 years: a couple of home break-ins in nonsecured homes, random vandalism occasionally (my car window was smashed for the hell of it), many professionals but also a couple of addicted neighbors always asking to stuff for you so will you give them money. The good stuff: active neighborhood association, community development corp, near a park, not too far from the hot areas, overall safe as long as you use common sense. How would 25th and Fed compare to where I have been living?

You will be living next to a huge train trestle. Which is the least of your problems. West of 25th is not up and coming, it is still sliding down. I went to school nearby and grew up a tad farther south. So regardless of what Simon says, I have intimate knowledge of the area. East and north of 25th has probably made the turn, but that is not where you will be living.
Just like the person who was looking around 27th Street and asking, I would not recommend 25th & Federal Streets. I think your old neighborhood sounded better. But if you want excitement and adventure, go for it. The police station is 5 blocks away at 20th & Federal, the nearest trauma center could be a toss up between HuP and Jefferson, and A O K is a pretty good auto glass installer at 1300 Washington Avenue.

I forgot that the CSX line ran along 25th St. Are the houses along Federal the one with the full story of steps to get to them, or is that Ellsworth? |

don't believe the hype. This is nowhere near a "up & coming" N'hood Don't get duped out of your money by a scumb bag realtor. This is the worse area in south philly . don't even think about it! Keep looking PLEASE!

Which one of us is giving out bad advice here? I put my two cents in, but I would expect that someone won't base where they live on what someone says on the internet You, on the other hand, work very hard to make Point Breeze come across as far worse than it actually is every chance you get. It's obvious that you have an agenda; I just can't figure out what it is. |

You really should get out more, into the actual city and see what life is like in the 21st century. It's pretty nice out here. |
