'Course, you know South Philly butts up next to a gigantic oil refinery...

It's like the whole city turned into Packers2 when the Ban came up for debate. "Oh let's not do anything about the murder rate, we need to take care of that nasty smoking!"
It's nice (and I say this as a former smoker) to be able to go out and eat in a restaurant or drink in a bar and come home not smelling of smoke. It's nice to be able to go to the Khyber and see a band and not come home with my eyes burning, in need of a shower.

As I said upthread -in fact the whole point of this thread- is that it wasn't a total band on smoking. I have no problem with there being bars where people are still allowed to smoke (for instance, Ray's Happy Birthday bar was terrible when they banned smoking, as you could actually smell what the places actually smells like).

I wasn't for a tital ban, I'm not for a total ban, and I'm happy with the way things are.

Because we all have choices now: I can choose to go to a bar and no have to deal with smoke, and you can chose to go to a bar where you can smoke.

Nice to see that BigMel has Godwinned the thread in 11 posts.

Sugarmom's, The Dive, Oscar's, Paddy's, McGlinchy's all allow smoking at certain times. Let the smokers (and I puff from time to time) have their smoke with a beer in the a/c. Revenue from cig taxes is unfortunately imbedded into the budgets of our gov'ts. So it is what it is.

We have greater problems to worry about, no?

I too like leaving a bar not smelling of smoke, but the law is still BS and it should be the owners decision.
These laws are being passed all over the world, Philly just wanted to be like all the cool kids, the city let itself down.

Dude, if you think the Khyber's a shithole, you really don't get out enough.

The Khyber is the last bastion of authentic experience in Old City and it (rather amazingly) doesn't have the worse bar bathrooms in Philly, not by a mile.

your right Simon, I don't go to different Sh!t holes and compare the restrooms. Forget the smoke, the BO from the clientele packed in like a can of worms is enough to gag a maggot. Of course your the only one whos ever been there so how would I know.
