My time is sparse but I'd also be interested in contributing to the effort.

Someone brought this garden up at the mtg with Police that was held Wednesday night but I don't really know people in the neighborhood so I don't have more info. I think if you contact the Civic Assoc they may have an idea.

If you're referring to the empty lot at 12th and Ellsworth that has been cleaned out and is now functioning as a garden, it was cleaned during the big Philly Spring Cleanup by volunteers from Circle of Hope church and the Passyunk Square Civic Association, as well as other neighbors.

I have the contact information for one of the guys who spearheaded the effort. I'm not sure if he'd want his info spread widely, but if you want to send me a PM I'll give you his email.

The garden looks wonderful, and does a good job of brightening that problem-corner. Unfortunately, there is still a big splotch of spray paint graffiti on the wall towards the Peter St. side of the block.

Whoever is controlling the property: You can have the graffiti removed for free (I beleive) by contacting the city. I think it is a fairly straightforward form on www.phila.gov.

Anti Graffiti comes by once a month or so to paint over it. Then a week later it's the same. They'd have to come every Monday to keep up.

One of the tricks to removing graffiti is to be more persistent than the people doing the tagging. All you have to do is remove it just one more time then they tag it. If you live in the neighborhood and care enough to keep calling it in (215.686.0000*), you will win.

*This is the number to the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network. When you call you will most likely get a machine. Just leave as specific an address as possible and what color/type of surface it is. You can even request a "Take the Challenge" packet which has helpful information in it. Leave your name, number and address and they will mail you one.

The owners won't do anything, they're a bunch of goofball flippers who paid WAY too much for the place.

The garden however, looks great. I can't be happier that it is on the corner of my block. That lot used to be such a weedy trashpit.

Thank you for posting all this great information.. I live across the street from a huge wall and when it doesn't have grafitti on it I don't mind it but when it's marked up I feel like I live in a slum . I left a message, hopefully they'll come!! The message said 2-3 days after you leave a message!

BTW, just to follow up, though it took longer than they said it would, I did notice that the graffiti is now gone!! They came and took care of it for me, I am so excited. Thanks again for posting the information. Often I forget that if you don't ask for help you never get any.
