I worked with Paul Fontaine from Prudential Fox and Roach and had a fabulous experience. My price range was from about $115k to $150l ($150k was my absolute top) and he didn't show me anything above my top (except the house I eventually bought, but I specifically asked him to and we ended up getting it for $150k) and was very realistic about what was going to be too much work/ fixing up for me to handle. We saw a lot of houses and he was very patient and very helpful. You can find him here: http://www.bestphillyhomes.com/. I believe he lives in Bella Vista but I was looking in South Philly - Pennsport/ Whitman areas.

Good luck! I would also suggest at least taking a look south of Snyder between Front and 4th. Now that I live down here, I have seen how nice those blocks are but I didn't really consider them at first. In particular, Jackson is beautiful, Wolf is really nice, and I think the next couple of blocks south of Wolf are also really nice. This is ONLY between Front and 4th I'm talking about though, west of 4th = not so clean and safe.

Hey Channa-
We just purchased our second home in south philly and used Steve Ferguson from Pru Fox Roach (center city). He's not from South Philly, but he knows the whole city. He works real estate full time - he's not a "night and weekend realtor." That was a big deal for us. We wanted someone who was in 110%. Also note that he does not work for the seller if you engage him. The old adage that agents always work for the seller used to be true, but has since changed. He was happy to work as a buyers agent for us (we purchased a home that was for sale by owner, actually). steve.ferguson@prufoxroach.com. Thanks, Steve (no, I'm not him... we just have the same first name ![]() Quote:

I know a few people that have found homes through her in South Philly and they're really happy. She's experienced in working with first-time buyers. I haven't actually worked with her, but she did recommend a great mortgage broker when we bought our house. |
