I didn't realize landlords who rented out Section 8 got reimbursements from the government for housing repairs. No wonder we don't have enough money for schools.

Who thought this brilliant idea up? Don't answer...I already know.

I feel really bad for the homeowners who have these out of state landlords renting out Section 8 houses on their block and they don't give a hoot who they're renting out to or how they're compromising the neighborhood. Aren't there any laws FOR the people who aren't milking the system?

This is ashame. A real crying shame. Makes me kind of glad I can't afford a home. If I could, the only home I could afford would be in a neighborhood where some out of state landlord rents out Section 8 houses to whoever can cash their welfare check the fastest. Probably right next door to my house.

Well, I guess the dogs are better off than in the shelter. Shelters are so depressing. At least the dogs are outside.

I know they're Section 8 cause people on my block told me and it's kind of obvious with the way their houses and yards are kept, or should I say unkept.

Oh now that's sad. I've been lurking for a while and my first post was going to ask if there is anything we could do about a section 8 up the street....sigh....

I'm a bit surprised that no one has posted yet that if a Section 8 tenant is in violation of his/her lease agreement, they can have their vouchers revoked. It is also the landlord's responsibility to ensure the tenant adheres to the agreement.

We had the unfortunate experience of terrible Section 8 tenants in a house across the street, but the owner (who used to live in the home) was extraordinarily proactive about maintaining quality of life on the street, and she had the cretans evicted. I also have to say that there are some great Section 8 tenants out there since subsequent tenants in the house across the street were wonderful, with one family becoming loved and supported by everyone on the block.

Oh absolutely! The tenants in there before this family were a lovely older couple who took excellent care of their home and the street. Never failed to chip in when we did block clean up and were just wonderful. The husband passed last summer and the wife had cancer and became too ill to care for herself and moved in with her son. Most of their family were friendly and we really enjoyed them. The new tenants are iffy, police already at their home (not sure why) and they remind me of the first set of tenants which were an absolute nighmare. Between the trash and her tricks, the kids who were little at the time out all hours of the night we had just about had it. Some of her tricks, allegedly, were the police officers who came to the house. They told us there was nothing we could do - just get a stay away order We called the landlord but before he could do anything she packed up and left in the middle of the night without paying her rent. No one wants a repeat of that fiasco. We'll just have to see how it goes. I don't think anyone wants to jump the gun - but we don't want to have to suffer or our kids either.

There are a few of us who have lived on that block our whole lives, there are also many are new faces. I don't mind the change - as long as everyone is out to keep things nice, clean and calm. Ya know?

I understand, tt1965, it's nerve wracking when your quality of life is determined by some person who can't take care of themselves and needs government assistance. Talk about a society being ass backwards.
Unfortunately my experiences with Section 8 people have been nightmares. I don't care how they live, as long as they're not so trashy I have to see or smell it, don't keep me up at night with a lot of noise and/or abuse, neglect dogs.
Is that asking too much? Oh, and no drugs, of coarse.
I was woken up 5 times last night to dogs barking and I'm pretty fed up with it because I've written so many complaints but nothing is being done about it.
I don't care if they bark during the day. Bark their heads off for all I care, I'm awake and I can turn on my stereo if it gets too irritating. But at night, I can't do anything but those stupid earplugs which DON'T work and a loud humming fan. Of course I have to close all my windows and bedroom doors-hoping to muffle the barking out but it's no good. I still get woken up...often.
I have the landlord's names but their address is listed as the one that's being rented out.
HOw do I get in touch with Section 8 to complain about the dogs being out all day and night?
I've tried the Police,Pacca, Pspca, Mayors Office, Licenses and through the Public Tax Record I tried sending the landlords a direct message but only got some guy who worked at the tax record building. What does one have to do to get a neighbor to make their dog/s shut up at night?

It hasn't been called Section 8 for some time now; it's "Housing Choice" (for whom, I wonder).

BigMel...This is not so anymore...The government is not paying for the repairs anymore...That has changed 10 years ago.

But you are right about the LOWLIFE landlords SOME being for NJ and Some live right here in South Philly too..

Some live in the suburbs.
