Thank you! It looks like a beautiful building.

I've always wondered about the history of Washington Avenue and how from Broad all the way West it has mostly tile shops/manufacturers/venders and what was there before, and what time frame was before anyway? Just curious if anyone knows anything about it....

Still too much money. I know old folks have lived all of their lives in rowhomes in SoPhilly. I worry though. My husband and I are in our late 50's. How will we manage the steps and maintain the house as we get older? The thought of having a porta potty on my first floor freaks me out. I remember my aunt had to have one in her kitchen. I wish someone out there would consider us less wealthy boomers who are looking for something on one floor under $200,000. I love living in the city and have never liked the burbs, although it is looking like the only option.

A one-story rowhouse? I've seen a few on 10th St. south of Oregon but i can't see many of them being built and especially not for less than $200k.

Have you considered a condo in a building with an elevator. There are plenty of low-rise buildings and I would imagine in 5 years or so there will be a lot more. I don't think something in the $200k range would be too hard to come by.

There are a couple blocks of 1 story rowhomes in my area (27th + 28th Street and Mifflin) as well -- they go for under $150-k.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I did mean a condo. I want one floor and an elevator. But believe me, you can't find one in Philly for under $250,000. There just isn't any median priced housing. It's either sketchy blocks or overpriced gigantic houses.

Now I find out that a condo I was going to investigate in Boothwyn for $169,000 called Creekside the taxes are over $6,000/yr....!

ya know, I saw them a few weeks ago, reminded of the houses on 10th street near Bigler... but I must ask, what is the going rate for a regular house up there, drove around the other day, and my Fiancee is from the Northeast, she was shocked at the houses up near you, you can close your eyes and open them in that area and swear you were in Mayfair!

You can grab a "Grandma" house for under 150-k and fix it the way you want it or if you are lucky an updated/finished home for about 175-195-k.

Many of the houses in my area have nice front lawns, garages etc. and most importantly you can be in either center city or on the Walt Whitman within 10 minutes! It's probably the only affordable area in South Philly with designated parking.

The Far Northeast has plenty of one story middle-income rowhomes. There's also plenty of affordable condos throughout the NE. If you can't afford anywhere to stay else in the city, its affordable up there and, in most neighborhoods, very clean/safe.

Yeah, it's crazy- I'm on 15th and Mifflin, lived in South Philly my whole life and don't think I ever even realized those houses up there looked like that. Thanks for the info. Hell I even went to High School at Neumann, I guess I never walked around though, get off the bus, go to school, get on the bus.
