Default PGW Calls?

anybody get a pgw call regarding coming out to replace the meter with an newer one?
not sure i like this idea as our meter is in a newly renovated basement behind the drywall (with an access panel only). if they have to tear into our walls (more than the access panel allows entry to) they better be on the hook to cover the expense......
just curious as to whether or not these calls are being sent out all over or if it's just my luck.....our house was completely renovated and gutted before we bought it....can't imagine our meter is terribly out of date!

Meters must always be fully accessible, and unfortunately it is not PGW's fault if a current or former homeowner chose to box it in.

They probably want to put in the new meters that have an rf signal to remotely meter the gas(no more need to physically check the meter).

PGW doesn't care if you like the idea or not-if you don't comply they will simply shut your gas off for breach of Terms of Service.

yes, did mine a couple months ago, They replace them every so many years. I think 10. It's not a big deal . Takes about 5 mins. is your access the size of the meter?

When mine got swapped out I had a leak as well. So they did that whole thing. The first guy there came and swapped it out. Then when it came time to turn service back on again a different guy was all bummed because someone had changed it and it was his thing and he missed out on a bonus for each one that gets "updated".

Do they come on weekends? I don't want to wait around all day for them to come and miss work.

I had thought I read somewhere that when they change the meter, they often 'discover' erroneous meter readings and never in the customers favor sometimes resulting in huge gas bills for back payments. Any truth to this horrible horrible rumor?

I'd assume so, when I bought my house, exactly a year ago this week actually, we got a really high Water bill, we figured, ok we had a small leak here and there, fix em- and we'll be good. Next month, even HIGHER, again, thought MAYBE it was just some left over from the previous leaks. So when the 3rd one came, and was even more than the previous two, I called... they came out and said the battery on my meter was dead, and has been, so they have just been estimating my usage. So they replace it, and the next month was a 1\4 of what the previous months were, so then I call to get credited for what they claimed I still owed them from the first few months, took me 6 months, a court date, AND (after getting a shut off notice) 3 phone calls to an impossible to get through to phone number, to FINALLY get them to credit me almost $500 they claimed I owed, all due to a faulty meter!

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but am glad you were persistent, hubba, because that just isn't right!
