Default Block cleanup around Guerin Rec Center, Sat 5/10

Hello All

NSCA is coordinating the first of several spring/summer block cleanups this Saturday @ 9 AM. Please join us at the Guerin Rec Center at 16th and Jackson if you would like to help. If you can't make it to Guerin then we hope you will take a few minutes to sweep in front of your house and even better, your neighbor's homes as well. Every little bit helps!

Have a great weekend...

stellaman, et al,
Good luck with the attempt at cleaning up around the rec...
I'm on 23XX S Mole and no matter what my neighbors and I do to clean up it always comes right back.
Frustrating to say the least!

Question

I'm hoping that the cleanup went on without a hitch...
Now, can we attempt to control the dog sh*t all around the rec?

Thanks for asking. The clean up went well although the weather did not help. We seem to get bigger turnouts when the sun is shining.

Take a walk along 16th Street. You will see that the Tree Tenders planted flowers in all the tree pits. Looks great. They were looking for "tree pit adoptions" to pay for the flowers and were successful!

As for the dog feces. Unfortunately this is a frustrating problem that plagues not only Guerin but much of Philadelphia. We did clean up what we could. I walk my dog several times a day and unfortunately it seems that in general it is the same people who don't pick up after their dogs. To be honest many of them probably think I am some kind of nut job with all my yelling at them to "pick up" but it doesn't seem to have the effect I would hope.
Of course if you had joined in on the clean up we could have gotten rid of more! (hint hint)

Our next cleanup is in June. I will make sure to post in plenty of time so that more of our neighbors can come out and participate. I am thinking that a few Primo hoagies and cold Newbold beer afterwards might be a good incentive.

Sellaman
I'm glad to see that there are individuals that are attempting to cleanup the area... Trust me I do my share and probably more, unfortunately it's a never ending battle.
And do please keep up with the yelling at the a**holes who don't pick up after their pets! Maybe if we throw the poop at them...
Post the info the next cleanup, you can hold ontpo the Primo's but I will try the beer....

Yay! Clean ups are soooo cool! I hope this wave of clean ups continues.
Trash thrown all over the streets depresses me.

I'd really like it if we could start really knuckling down on people who dump trash on business curb sides, alleyways, lots, etc...
But the police and the court system have enough to do. Think reporting the dumping actually helps at all?
