Talking Nicholas - byob

Not sure if anyone has posted anything about this place yet
but I have driven by a few time and finally looked at the sign.

It's a sign for a new american cuisine byob restaurant...another new restaurant in pennsport! YAY!

It is where the old cafe carmen's used to be

I would love to know if anyone has any info on when they expect to open and what the food will be like

Default Nicholas

I happened to catch Nicholas as he was leaving the restaurant a couple of weeks ago. He was with his wife (I think) and I was very impressed with his pedigree. Like I said, its been a little while since we talked, but I think he mentioned working in the kitchen at Striped Bass and Morimoto - anyway, I remember that I was impressed. I got a really good vibe from him - can't explain, but in our short conversation he seemed like someone passionate about being involved, being in the kitchen and preparing high quality food. I liked Cafe Carmen because it was close and had good gelato, but honestly the food wasn't the greatest.

Again, don't quote me on this, but I think they were shooting for an April opening...

thank you scase

I am very excited that pennsport is finally getting quality dining in the hood rather than the ubituitous hoagie shops and pizza joints!

and while caffe carmen was nice, they really didn't put much effort in getting their name out

it also felt a little weird going in at times

oh well...i wish nicholas well in his venture

Default Still not open, but they've updated the sign.

It says to expect Contemporary New American Cuisine featuring local products and produce, as well as a 'drink mixer bar.' I assume this means something along the line of Lolita's pitchers of mix that you add your own tequila too. Hooray for that! If anyone hears anything else, do post...

Default Grand Opening next weekend!

From http://nicholasphilly.com/ - Grand Opening next Saturday, 05/17. Can't wait.

Talked to a friend last night who is friends with one of the Nicks' wives. I forwarded her this thread so hopefully we can get the chef/owners to comment!
