Is there anywhere to get sushi in South Philly?

None worth eating that I know of, though that will be changing soon. If your definition of 'South Philly' is 'South of South St.', then there's Hikaru, on 2nd between South and Bainbridge.

There's also a place called Terryin which is located at 3rd and Snyder.

It's one of those Chinese /Japanese places but the sushi is actually quite good! I've never eaten in at the restaurant, but they do deliver and their sushi is good and fairly priced. Nice option to have sushi delivered I think.

For a true Sushi dining experience the closest place is truly Hikaru on 2nd Street.

If you're desperate and your definition of edible sushi is equal to or greater than supermarket prepackaged sushi, then Ruby Buffet is OK. I went to grab dinner there last night (2nd time there) and the food was again decent, although the clientèle seemed to be of lesser to my liking this time. There were lots of large families with young kids and idiotic parents who try to skimp on the bill by lying about the age of their kids, so there's always some squabble as they pay. Also, as the parents ate, the kids were usually yelling, rolling on the floor, or doing laps around the restaurant. Next time I'm getting my food to go. I noticed the flyer on the counter saying food to go is $5/lb.

I can second Terryin. The sushi is good, prices are good, and it's usually not crowded so it's a nice quiet place to have dinner.

The other Chinese buffet place in Whitman Plaza has quite "good by buffet standards" sushi - with real fish even! Spicy tuna, salmon, eel, fake krab. Better than grocery take out, and beats Ruby by a yard on quality if not variety. The sushi rice is much better than at Ruby, tastes fresher instead of refrigerated.

They also have some of the best Chinese buffet vegetables around - cooked but crispy, lightly sauced, and you must have the whole sauteed mushrooms. The homestyle tofu is decent, and the salt and pepper chicken, while not very spicy, is tasty.

Uh oh, off track again.

Now I'm hungry.

I've just recently had sushi from Johnnie Chang's @ Broad & Shunk. I thought it was excellent but then again I've never eaten sushi before.

Completely agree. Can't believe I can get sushi delivered. Hiraku is expensive to me. Only went there once.
