I had the same issue and purchased a washer and dryer from Dominic's. They delivered the washer and dryer, then disassembled and reassembled them in the basement. They mentioned that some of the manufacturers no longer make machines that can be disassembled, not sure if this is still the case. Good luck

This is very much the case as my husband and I learned a year and half ago. Our dryer went kaput and we had to buy a new one. We measured door/dryers and bought one from home depot we thought would fit.

THought.

We didn't factor in the vent that stuck out a few inches etc. They del. guys wanted to "bend" it in to make it fit. I freaked out on them and said no way. I'll wait till hus. comes home. Turns out i read thru the instruction book and saw that i just had to pull that part out and voila the dryer would then fit down etc.

Downside my husband and I had to lug it downstairs instead of delivery guys like i'd planned.

Had I known about these places I think I would have done that instead!

We also just inhearited an oven from my sister and was a pain to get in. My husband also didn't know the oven doors slide off. He was about to smash it up stuck in the door way because he was so aggravated!!!!

GOOD LUCK!

We had a similar issue - ended up converting part of the main floor into a laundry/ utility room, which I am really happy we did. I don't know what to tell you if you don't want to do any remodeling, but if you are doing work on your house you might consider finding a place where you could put in a closet with a stacking set. Now I just have to eventually get the old washer (no dryer) out of the basement...

I second Dominics. I buy all my appliances from there. Good prices, and they take both apart, as well as take old appliances away if you need them to.

I'll chime in with a vote for Dominic's.

Good Luck!
