Isn't there a bike lane going down Washington? The driver should technically look when making a right turn to see if there are any bikes coming. However you did say you had your signal on so they should have realized that you were turning.

He did look, that's why he didnt' hit them.

But they're also not supposed to pass a car on the right at an intersection, whether his light is on or not, if you want to be technical about it.

Chances are, the riders will eventually get hit by a car, and then blame the car for not being aware of THEM and their reckless maneuvering.
oh, the rules and laws definitely apply to me, i just choose to ignore them. who knows why they passed the OP on the right? maybe they didn't notice the turn signal, maybe the turn signal bulb was out and not blinking from the rear, maybe they didn't care and knew they were riding fast enough to go by driver before they turned.

that said, i blow thru lights, stop signs, intersections, etc, etc all the time. i always look to make sure no ones coming cuz getting hit sucks and it hurts. if i get hit, and i know it's my fault then whatever, my loss. but to act as if drivers never blow stop signs or red lights is completely assinine.

Yeah, until you get killed and your family sues someone you victimize.

why do you assume i can't handle myself on these big mean streets of philadelphia? also, why do you assume my family is the type to just up and sue someone over something i've done wrong? you should relax, it'll help loosen you up so that stick will fall right out of your ass.

Because you said, "i blow thru lights, stop signs, intersections, etc, etc all the time. "

You're admitting it yourself.

Because every family is the type. No one in grieving believes their loved one did anything wrong.

I'm plenty relaxed, that's why I don't feel the need to i blow thru lights, stop signs, intersections, etc, etc all the time. It's rude, inconsiderate, dangerous to yourself and others. I might be more relaxed if there weren't asshats running around blowing thru lights, stop signs, intersections, etc, etc all the time.

I firmly believe that nick is not the suing type-mainly because his admitted erratic bycycling would tend to suggest that he would be the one at fault, and therefore the one without a case. Meanwhile he limps off with a bent wheel while the car owner is left with hundreds of dollars in unwanted damage.

I was at Varalli's on broad street a couple weeks ago and saw this story happen three times during the course of dinner and a few drinks. The bicylists wandered off, the drivers were in shock, and by the time the automobile owners realized they had damages the cyclists were long gone.

While there's plenty of "irresponsible" bicyclists out there (probably due mostly to age and perceived invincibility), there's a hundred times as many irresponsible drivers. As a bicyclist, I'm very aware of every car in my vicinity and I've seen some amazing stuff. People texting as they drive is a favorite. My recent favorite was the woman who was talking on the phone, disciplining her kids in the backseat and smoking a cigarette (all at the same time) as she made a left hand turn thru an intersection.

I'd worry more about idiots in cars than reckless kids on bikes. Chances are you'll win a battle with a bike...not so much with an SUV.

Right....when I said, "who did that" I was reffering to who claimed that drivers never did that? It has nothign to do with the OP or anything else in this thread.

blowing thru stop signs and intersections doesn't mean i can't handle myself. it means i'm constantly aware of my surroundings and watching out for cars where i know the driver probably doesn't see me becuase i'm not a big shiny piece of metal. when i said the riders are probably more aware of the driver than the driver is of the rider, it's because as a person who rides this city everyday, you have to be aware and cautious of every door, pedestrian, driver, out there. i never assume a driver sees me until i can see the whites of their eyes and even then, half the time, they look right through me and try to turn into my "lane".

it's not like i blow thru intersections because i'm reckless and feel the need to be a "badass" or something. i merely like to get where i'm going, fast.
