Default Parking on South Broad

To rehash an old topic ...

One of the reasons people say they can't end the illegal parking on South Broad is because there is no where to park.

While walking Broad Street today watching the mummers I was wondering ... where do people put all their cars? I highly doubt several hundred people fled the City for the two days. Add in the fact many people drive in to watch also and had to park somewhere.

Maybe that i the key. One year make it known that anyone that parks on Broad St. after it is cleared for the Mummers will start to be ticketed.

Not just ticketed, but towed for being left in the middle of a roadway.

I think a lot of people have been gone all week. Our block has been empty since Christmas Eve, my friend a few blocks over said the same thing. It seems like a lot of city clears out for the holidays, between college students, and the fact that cities seem to draw more transient people who might be more inclined go to relatives for the holidays.

Yeah, I have to admit most of the S. Philly parking "traditions" are lost on me, but the parking in the middle of S. Broad St. is one that has never phased me all that much. However, I'm too wussy to ever do it--with the way people drive on Broad I would be too worried about getting mowed down while trying to cross.

Because it's dangerous and illegal? Laws that apply in the rest of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania also apply in South Philadelphia, and it's about time they were enforced.

It's not dangerous and it's legal. I park there all the time.

It's a symbol of City Hall's inability to execute its laws.

And it is starting to happen on North Broad, periodically and I don't want my neighborhood to turn into that.

It's not legal because the cops don't enforce the law; Philly cops are useless and corrupt and don enforce the legal code uniformly

Imagine this: I'm a Druid and believe in human sacrifice of the guy who gets the burnt biscuit. So I buy Eastern State and donate heavily to the FOP as I slowly strangle my sacrifices within the walls of my own private compound, so the FOP turns its back on my activities because they are "traditional".

Is that okay by you?
