Girard Park did not ask for the money. The Fairmount Park Commission, which oversees Girard Park, requested the fee that it normally charges for events to be held on Fairmount Park property.
The Vendemmia is not a fundraiser for a Methodist Hospital. The festival began in '97 as a fundraiser for the now defunct St. Agness hospital. After that hospital's demise, the Vendemmia Foundation was started to to raise funds for scholarships and in some instances for medical institutions. |

The new location is a joke. The event lost all of its soul by moving out of the neighborhood park setting. Plus, baking in the sun while eating and drinking wine is no fun. Only one entrance was quite inconvenient as well.

I agree. The event lost its intimacy and neighborhood feel. I felt lost yesterday on that field. Felt like a refugee camp.
The trees would have provided much needed shade. Where does the money go? According to the brochure, not much goes toward the scholarships. Don't think i will go again |

Many people ask what happens to the money from the festival. Aside from scholarships, every year the Vendemmia Foundation puts money aside into an investment account that, one day, should generate enough interest to generate more scholarships in perpetuity.
This is a standard practice for financially successful charities. The idea is that, in case the festival stops occurring, the scholarships will be able to continue. |
